Our limited knowledge based on dd and her close friends’ scholarship applications this year - 4H2 (with some CCA/community services) seems to be good enough for Government/Local University Scholarship. Her PSC scholar friend did have H3 on top of other achievements/contributions.

Hi. My son has recently got into combined sciences and he wants to go to medical school when he is older. If he gets good grades for his 5th year O level, he would be able to go to JC. However, I heard that not many JC’s offers 2 H2 courses for combined sciences. Any JC’s that you guys want to introduce?

Found this article (link below). U may want to read whole article to find out more.

Combined Science students…usually easier for them to go the Poly route, then use their diploma as credits to enter a related Uni course. That’s what my DH did. There’s a lot of catch up to do cos they skip a lot of content compared to the Pure Sciences kids.

“For JC, students have to obtain minimum B3 for Pure subjects, A1 for Combined subjects to be able to take up H2 subjects in Junior College.

            – For example: you have to get A1 in Combined (Phy/Chem) to be able to take H2 Chemistry in JC.

You will also have a compulsory bridging module in JC to attend.

Some Junior Colleges are more lenient on this, allowing up to B3 to take up H2 Sciences (Yishun-Innova Junior College, JPJC etc).“

Would suggest he take the poly route in a medical/science related course, then proceed to university to do his dream course. It’s getting more common for poly grads to be able to get into top courses.

                Hallo,
                VJC offers this
My children had classmates who did combined science in sec sch, they got A1 for that and did the 2 related H2 subjects in JC. It was tough but they did well.
As far as I know, no bridging course needed also.
Maybe for the topics not covered in combined sci but done in pure science, you can self-read to further understanding.
There are people who have no background in specific science subjects doing exams that covers them. Nothing can stop you if you are motivated to learn.
Wishing your son all the very best in his applications.

If you are student in a school, you can't register. So I expect if you are no longer in the school, you may register. Check with SEAB to verify this info.

If a student has never taken O-level (Pure Bio nor Combined Bio) before,

but now wish to take up A-level H2 Bio in a Junior College ,
what kind of challenge(s) likely to await this student, assuming no bridging "Bio" program exists inside the JC ?

                      For A-level H2 Bio,
not compulsory to have sat for O-level Bio (exam code : 6093) before

                      But for A-level H2 Physics,
it is compulsory to have taken O-level Physics (6091) before.

                        1. Not used to reading a lot of content. Bio is content heavy at A levels

                        2. Whether you could apply yr knowledge correctly as more towards application nowadays

                        3. Answering techniques

Take note that Medicine course in Sg universities do not require Bio H2 as a prerequisite
