        Hi all,
Can someone who knows and have experienced with good English tutor please recommend him/her to me. I'm looking for a good tutor for my son who, at Sec 3 now, is still quite weak in the language. I'm tearing my hair out in trying to get him to read books and newspapers or even just watch the news on TV 😞
        I have sent you a pm.[/quote]May I have the English tutor’s contact

In terms of scoring well for English, knowing how to tackle the different sections of the four papers is extremely important. There are some sections such as Summary with certain skills and guidelines that we can prepare our children for. Not only that, Spoken Interaction is another component where we can prep the students adequately to let them know what to discuss during the examinations.

Young Scientist Level 4 is too childish & simple for secondary school students (though they may claim it has secondary school topics). My P5 is reading this series for fun (doesn’t even help with P5/6 Science).

What are her current weaknesses now? Work on those to see where she usually makes mistakes.
The easiest way to improve her grades is to ensure she scores very high marks (min 80%) for oral (reading aloud - quite easy to score 9 or 10 out of 10 with the right techniques and spoken interaction) and P1 (marking rubrics allow top bands). When she writes compos and situational writing, do get her to do improved versions after getting feedback from her teacher. Some students just take a look and chuck their work aside.
For comprehension, practise the different types of skills required.
                        Continue to work on vocab.
You can PM me for more questions/info.
