      MdmKS:
      Hi Jenn,

      Between NUSH and the list of top schools below, given a choice, which is the natural choice for most as of today?

      NUSH vs HCI/NYGH ---->
      NUSH vs RI/RGS ------>
      NUSH vs ACS(I) ------>
      NUSH vs NJC ----->

      Have I missed out any of above?
      To me I feel that NUSH, RI, RSG and HCI are in the top league which can attract the best of the best students to study in their schools every year.

      I have a few questions here.
      - is NUS the only place to go after graduating from NUSH?
      - do students study mother tongue in NUSH?
      - can the students switch to banking, accounting or law degree courses after graduated from NUSH?

        Ya..right...they should enjoy as much as they can while they are in the school....bcos after that everything will be totally different. They will become a scientific researchers or you call scientists and mathematicians whatever...then, you will receive a meagre salary while you see your primary school classmates who have become lawyers, doctors and mnc's high management making big bucks. You will toil long hours in the labs doing plumbing works, washing test tubes while you wonder where is the idea of a scientist when you are still at NUSH. :lol:

        Don't they all become doctors??!!

        Gosh, if career options only limited to research scientists...seems quite bleak leh

          You mean Ph.Ds...ya....Ph.D nowaday isn't hard to get. I think almost the entire conhort that get to NUSH will get their Ph.D. Didn't you read in the papers that some korean Physics Ph.D guy fighting to get a cleaning job?

          Research scientist is limited? Don't you think getting an academic position (aka professorship) is even narrower?

              Wonder what is the no. of places allocated for local students vs foreign

              students. I read before that China students tend to do well in Maths
              and Science so maybe most of them are offered scholarships to study there so as to ‘spur’ our kids to work even harder.

                Is it difficult to go into another stream in the Uni after graduating from NUSH? I always think of Sec Sch/JC as a ticket to Uni.

                  My son used to love and are very strong in Maths and Science. After his first term in Year one, he told me he enjoyed Literature, Humanities and Philosophy. I am gald he did not choose to go NUSH and have the opportunity to explore other areas. He is now sharing this experience with his primary schools student and friends.

                    U think about it. The fact that one says he has a passion for maths and science in their early age already limit their choice of profession. It is not that NUSH limit your prospect. It is your own interest and your own choice that limit yourselves. Of course, I think smart people can always switch from areas to areas with great ease since they learn things quickly.

                      Children changes very quickly. Primary school only learn 4 subjects. If you are good in maths and science, you won in competitions like olimpiak whatever, you get the praise. Of course people like to be praised especially children. And that may be mistaken as passion for the real subjects. this is the real danger.
