Pierce Sec Sch (19) would be ahead of Whitley (22). You may want to consider Guangyang (21)
Any review on Whitley Sec sch n Pierce Sec Sch? Boy did not do well and scored AL19 -
Did consider Guang Yang too…am thinking which choice to put the above few schools within Bishan Sing Ming area…

Suggesting CHIJ Katong Convent
Hi my DD has AL14 and may I seek the following advice:
1) should I appeal to review math and science which she get AL5. For EL and MT it’s AL2. I thought science paper was easy so can’t fathom why she got AL5
2) any advice for girls school for AL14 - distance doesn’t matter but single sex school matters to her. How do I order my 6 choices pls for strategic reasons
3) What is AL14 equivalent to in the T-score? And AL2 is A while AL5 is C?
Really await your advice thanks. -

Just assure him that the results are good and move on (it's not worth paying $$ per subject to request MOE to review - they only check whether got admin or calculation error - also no guarantee the mark will improve after review).CathyRinee\" post_id=\"2047915\" time=\"1637758941\" user_id=\"195981:
Hi, thanks so much. We live in the east, nearest MRT Mountbatten. Can i check again that appealing might not help? He wants to do everything he can to boost his results 😢 thanks for your time.

Hi, if you mention your home location (North/Northeast/East/West/Northwest) and your nearest MRT station, I can provide you with suggestions that are feasible. Don’t stress, hug your son first & we can figure out the options together.
You may want to try 1st choice Tanjong Katong Secondary (14), small chance that maybe if the cut off moves downwards this year, will get in.
2nd to 6th choices to consider:
- Ngee Ann Secondary (16) - (Tampines East MRT DTL)
- Bedok View Secondary School (18) - Tanah Merah MRT (EWL)
- Pasir Ris Secondary School (18) - Tampines MRT (EWL/DTL)
- Bedok South Secondary School (19) - Tanah Merah MRT (EWL)
- Guangyang Secondary School (21) - Bishan MRT (CCL/NSL)
- Broadrick Secondary (22) - Dakota MRT CCL
- Manjusri Secondary (22) - Ubi MRT DTL (change over at Macpherson CCL/DTL interchange)
- Outram Secondary School (22) - 33min via bus #16
- Changkat Changi Secondary (22) - Simei MRT EWL
Thank you so much for your advice & time. Will definitely take into consideration. Have a good day :thankyou: -

2) there are only 2 girls schools available for 14 pointer: St Anthony’s Canossian Secondary (15) & CHIJ Katong Convent (15). The rest are all co-ed schools.

1) if you really suspect there was calculation error that resulted in AL5 for Maths & Science (Eg her grades have always been much better than AL5, from P5 SA2 to P6 SA1 to prelims), then just pay the fees for review, at least u can have them double-check the score. -

U can always try that for first choice and hope that the COP remains at 11 so AL10 would safely get in. Do ensure you have safe choices after the first choice.

Girls school choice
Hi my DD has AL14 and may I seek the following advice:
1) should I appeal to review math and science which she get AL5. For EL and MT it’s AL2. I thought science paper was easy so can’t fathom why she got AL5
2) any advice for girls school for AL14 - distance doesn’t matter but single sex school matters to her. How do I order my 6 choices pls for strategic reasons
3) What is AL14 equivalent to in the T-score? And AL2 is A while AL5 is C?

*St. Anthony’s Canossian Secondary School – AL15
*CHIJ Katong Convent – AL15
AL14 is around 230 - 235
Old score A was 75 - 90
AL2 is 85 - 89
AL3 is 80 - 84
AL4 is 75 - 79
AL5 is 65 - 74 (this range was B in old score)
You can compare your girl's score in Math & Science in Prelim or previous years when she was in P4-P5.
If she usually in range 70-80 then it's still possible she got 70-74 (AL5) in PSLE
If she's consistently scored above 85 in the past, it may be worth to appeal, but there's also other factor to consider, such as she might have exam anxiety during PSLE or this year PSLE were more difficult. -

Your observation is correct. The new PSLE system is biased towards well subject balanced students. If only one or two subjects with top mark, better to strengthen further for DSA.
How come I feel the new system make the entry to top school even harder.. in the old system, if have a few subject close to the top mark.. can bring up the total score.. now miss by some narrow marginsin each AL bands, can make a big difference..
Another thing is that only students with good margin above 90 at one subject can relax a bit and put efforts to other subjects, since AL1 has wide range of 90-100 in the new system. For the rest ALs, students have to work as hard as before, Since no one can predict whether final exam result at the AL band boundary or not.
