I heard from nephew that this yr’s Sci and Eng listening compre were tough. Is that the general consensus?

If so, many students with AL1 for prelims may end up with AL2 for these subjects, giving them AL6 overall. In this case, is it possible that the projected AL4-6 for the top few schools for 2020 may actually increase to AL4-7 for this year?

I feel that it’s not easy to score AL1 for both languages and Sci, especially given the pandemic. And to score AL1 for all 4 subjects is even rarer IMHO.

Personally if my kid has an AL6, I’ll still give HCI and RI a shot as the 1st & 2nd choice, depending on which is his preferred option. I’ll just make doubly sure that his 3rd and 4th choices are something extremely likely to happen.

In life, we have to take some risks (even if there’s possibility of balloting). Going for these top schools with their advanced curriculum is also a risk in itself. I can accept being balloted out of my choices but I’ll definitely feel sore about giving up on a shot at them bcoz of the fear of balloting. Anyway these are just my tots and others may feel differently.
my son said eng listening compre was not easy. science he said was quite ok. he got AL2 for eng, and AL1 for science.
he is in the best class in his pri school - but this is a neighbourhood school. quite a lot of his friends got scores below AL 8. a few got AL4 as well. hard to judge how the AL scores for the top schools will swing

In 2020, AL8 is around 251 and above, which mean AL9 will be around 248.
For last year AL9 COP school, the last student was a 250.

For 2021, we can expect AL8 to go as low as 247, for tudents with AL5 subject.
For AL9, it can go even lower to 232 if a student has an AL6 subject below 50 marks.

So those with AL9 PSLE grades this year, better not have too high hopes when applying for TJC or RVHS.

I believe MOE will protect these two IP schools (Temasek JC & River Valley High)

        MOE,
in their computer database, will know exactly what is this year (2021) AL ? (8 or 9) equivalent to 250, or at most 249. They won't let students with low 24x be admitted into these two IP schools. MOE need to maintain 250 standard, for IP schools.

So, if this year 2021 Psle batch many students tend to perform well overall, then the Cut off for IP schools at 250, may jolly well be AL 8, instead of AL 9.

Let's not make unproven and wild speculation about MOE. Just like MOE couldn't dictate a T-score COP previously, I find it hard to believe they will manipulate the AL COP for these two schools.
The new system will admit students in the way it was programmed for, and in the end, the admission AL for a particular school is what it is.

Hi my DD has AL14 and may I seek the following advice:
          1) should I appeal to review math and science which she get AL5. For EL and MT it’s AL2. I thought science paper was easy so can’t fathom why she got AL5
          2) any advice for girls school for AL14 - distance doesn’t matter but single sex school matters to her. How do I order my 6 choices pls for strategic reasons
          3) What is AL14 equivalent to in the T-score? And AL2 is A while AL5 is C?

          Really await your advice thanks.

I have read a couple of Qs pertaining to review/ appeal the results!

Of course there is an option to appeal! Coming from a spouse of a marker at the PSLE exams: “ Let’s just say that, the margin of error is almost zero! “ it has been marked and double/ tripled checked by various recorders…. Trust the process that it is very fair and just!

During appeal process, you don’t get to view the scripts. Just perhaps, get a report to say that there is a/no error in the administrative matters.

Extremely useful information. Thanks for sharing

            Hi,

We are staying at Pasir Ris. My son got AL7M.
May I know what any advise on Secondary School Selection?
            1. NAN CHIAU HIGH SCHOOL - 40 min
            2. HWA CHONG INSTITUTION - 80 min
3.TEMASEK JUNIOR COLLEGE - 65 min (upgrading from 2024 to 2027 (tentative), school will hold classes at 2 Tampines Ave 9)
            4.CATHOLIC JUNIOR COLLEGE - 70 min

Should we even consider if the travelling take more than 1 hour?
Any other school that we should put into consideration?
Hi and congrats. I think at AL7(M) you will almost certainly be posted to NCHS.

Assuming you are keen on Chinese/SAP, the others to considers are Anglican High (probably not much different travel time from NCHS), Chung Cheng High Main, and Dunman High (probably around 1 hour+ or slightly shorter time than to HCI). For choice #4, I assume you mean Catholic High (Secondary)? CJC should not be applicable at this point in time.

              Hi
My son got AL 18. We are staying in the east. There are limited school for him to choose. Most school eg Ngee Ann, Temasek, st Patrick only affiliated. Can he choose those affiliated but he was not from any of the school. Any advise on Bedok View and changkat changi? I realise this 2 schools do not have NT. Which mean is better choice to choose without NT?
No NT posted could also mean the school has lower demand in general which might result in school mergers in future. Anyway MOE may decide to post in NT for 2022 Sec 1 if there is enough demand.

with AL18 in the east can also consider

              Pasir Ris (18)
              Meridian (19)
              Bedok South (19)
              Tampines (19)

my boy got 6M, if we put

                1st RI,
                2nd HCL,
                3rd ACS,
                4th RV
Is it too risk to lost 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, if this year there are a lots 4 and 5, then cop for RI, HCL and ACS to 6 or below?

                or we put
                1st HCL
                2nd ACS
                3rd RV.
if sequence of choice matters, then maybe go HCL if this year there are a lots 4 and 5, then cop for RI, HCL and ACS to 6 or below?

                Please advice.

                    Thanks SG_KP1 for the advice.

Yes it is Catholic High not CJC.
Oh, I have not rank it yet. I only had all these 4 schools NAN CHIAU HIGH SCHOOL, HWA CHONG INSTITUTION,TEMASEK JUNIOR COLLEGE and CATHOLIC HIGH in mind putting into secondary school consideration.

Thanks for the additional Anglican High option. Will put it into consideration too.

For those who are considering Anglican High. Do take note the children who are taking public transport. You will need to do climb the slope up and down daily. Good exercise!

Sad to say, most of the elit schools have many foreigners and PR. These are the group of people did very well ($$) and put Singaporean children in a disadvantage position. You seldom see a blue collar's kid get into elit school compare to old time.

The so call all schools are good schools are invalid because the ratio of people being successful in life between the elit and neighbour schools are too wide.

Even with Singaporean first, not many local children meet the requirement.

When I pass by or visit the following school, below is my opinion:
Look at RVHS, it is as good as China School.
Look at RI, never see so many Indian in the School.
Look at Hwa Chong/NYGHS, it is looks like a Rich School. The countless trail of luxury cars waiting to drive into the school.

                      And many more.
Chinese and Indian are not natives of Singapore and most of us grand and great grand children of immigrants who came to Singapore maybe 50 yo 60 years ago. If the British or the native Malays share your view on immigrants, then you and your children are unlikely to be Singaporeans today.

For a small country like Singapore, which relies heavily on foreign investment and global trade, I believe its important for the country to remain open to foreigners and new immigrants alike because a small fish that travels the ocean will be wiser than a big fish living in a small pond.

Contrary to what you are saying, students at top secondary schools in Singapore are admitted merit, not race or wealth.

Since the results are out, any sense on whether this year's cohort did better or worse than last year?
In terms of overall pass rate to secondary school, it is the same 98.4% as 2020.
In terms of students making to Express course, it has increased from 66. 3% in 2020 to 68.4% in 2021
In terms of students making to Normal Acad course, it decreased from 21.2% in 2020 to 18.9% in 2021.
For Normal Tech, it was increased from 11% to 11.1%.

Looking at this, it seems the 2021 cohort did better since the % of students going to Express from NA is higher (2.1%) then NA going to NT (0.1%) and probably a remaining rounding to 1 decimal place of 0.1% unaccounted for in the decrease for NA, (2020 ~ 66.3+21.2+11 = 98.5% when it should be 98.4%)
