Cat High puts it on its website, scgs does that too. But yes, most schools dont write it down. Google for “scgs cohort size”, try? You can also find out by asking at the open house or by googling for timetable. From timetable, you can see how many express classes, normal classes, and then estimate by multiplying the number of classes by 35 for express and multiplying it by 30 for IP. Rough estimate.

Edited to add: the above multiplication formula does not apply to rgs and nygh, because I think have about 35 in each class.

For the gals, with sleeves or sleeveless is an equally crucial factor.

Jokes aside, as our son’s sch pants are white, my dw made sure all his undies are white too. She doesn’t want him to stand out in the wrong way. So yah, uniform colours and designs are really impt.

Your dw is very wise, we also get everything white. It is important not to show off your inner wear, especially so when you have no sleeves/in white. Also in this weather, try to keep cool.

Actually, i think white underwear beneath white top or bottom can still be seen. To be more “invisible”, need to get skin colour underwear.


This was the advice given to me by my wedding dress designer…I did ask him (out of curiosity) whether really can find guys’ underwear in beige…he told me can…but i didn’t get round to asking where lol. Hubby chose a non-white pants for his suit in the end.

schools with both IP and O level programe will generally have larger cohort size

We are staying at Pasir Ris. My son got AL7M.
May I know what any advise on Secondary School Selection?
1. NAN CHIAU HIGH SCHOOL - 40 min
2. HWA CHONG INSTITUTION - 80 min
3.TEMASEK JUNIOR COLLEGE - 65 min (upgrading from 2024 to 2027 (tentative), school will hold classes at 2 Tampines Ave 9)
4.CATHOLIC JUNIOR COLLEGE - 70 min

Should we even consider if the travelling take more than 1 hour?
Any other school that we should put into consideration?

Can consider VS, my son has a few friends staying in Pasir Ris.

if u want to consider IP schools, with AL7M, can try SJI (AL8) as well

We have NJC at our original list, as boy likes the idea of boarding opportunity (he found out after listening to their eOpen House).

We listed it down after thinking that if we do not get into ACS(I) IP with AL7(M) in second choice (either due to balloting or COP), chances are we will not be getting into NJC in 3rd choice as well. So, decision making becomes which one to put in 2nd choice between ACS(I) IP and NJC. ACS(I) nudged in because it offers dual-track.

Will NJC still do boarding?

If i have to choose between njc and ac, I will go with ac. A bigger cohort offers more options in everything, — cca, programmes, subject combinations etc

We did not consider cohort size as part of decision making considerations. Now that you mentioned it, I think it sure has its advantage. From my unreliable research source, NJC vs ACS(I) cohort size is 200 v 400.

My girl has AL6M, am thinking of this order:

1. RGS (COP = 6)
2. NYG (COP = 7M)
3. St Nick IP (COP = 7M)
4. NJC (COP = 7)

She is only interested in RGS so though chance of balloting is high, I think should at least try. And I am prepared that NYG will also have no chance.

Will she be safe for St Nick / NJC?

Can try. Look at history, cop for RGS and NYGH always took turn to be no 1. So sometimes RGS had higher cop, sometimes it was NYGH. That is why they are top 2 schools, cop are generally higher than their male counterparts. One advantage is that both had 12 classes, cohort size is large, can be up to 400 per cohort, but usually about 380.

However for st nick ip and njc, cohort size is small, maybe 4 classes ip in st nick and 6 or 7 classes in Njc. They are also popular schools, putting them at 3rd or 4th position there is a risk they had filled up in 1st and 2nd choice, even you have AL6.

Just note that popular schools will get filled up in 1st or 2nd choice. You also need to look at cohort size. Also note that both rgs and nygh can take in 30% DSA. More than other schools as they are popular with DSA students from GEP, bilingual etc.

But well, as SG KP1 highlighted, maybe we should be more confident and shift plan B (RVHS) to 4th choice, and keep only either one of BP Gov High or Nan Hua High as plan C in 6th choice.

Not sure if you’ve checked out the differences between the IP-Alevels and the IP-IB. Also the distance by car/bus from your place to dover road. Some considerations, to think about.

I think rather than putting More AL11 choices, I would try to input choices with AL closer to 7-9. AL 11 is really just a safety net.
