My son scored AL 5 .We are confused between IP A level and IB programs.Whether to choose RI or ACS(I)
All top students will definitely choose RI , I am worried how he will cope up in the competitive environment. He is from the neighbourhood school. I feel ACS(I) less competitive environment(may be i am wrong)
      Please guide
I can't say I really understand the difference between IP and IB (former is UK style and latter US style) program but I don't think you should worry too much whether your son is able to cope in ANY top tier schools. My boy was admitted into RI last year from a very mediocre neighbourhood primary school (ranked 100+ if you believe in such ranking list) and he is doing well there. Teachers are caring and helpful and his friends there, unlike a lot of hearsays, are just a bunch of \"silly\" boys exactly like my son 🙂

      I believe ACS is same.

So no worries, let your son make his decision and go with his heart.

My girl score 8M, if I put cedar girls IP as first choice, River Valley at 2nd choice, and Nan hua as my 6th choice. Is this too risky?? If 1st choice I didn’t manage to go in, will River Valley can go in?

        Any other suggestion??

I think ACS (I) IB program can be as competitive as RI. Not sure if it is true, from what I was told, students who choose IB route generally will end up pursuing further studies in US, some may not even complete the full 6 years of the IP program.

            Where u staying ? West ?
            That's why pick schools like
Nan Hua & River Valley High ?

If u stay west, please drop Cedar because is too far for your poor daughter, unless you are free to chaufeur her to and fro everyday, right to the doorstep of Cedar.
Don't forget, in Secondary school, students need to stay back several times every week, bec of Cca, 3rd language, project team mates discussion, etc.

When u choose suitable Secondary school, do factor in distance travel, very important ! Dont just keep looking at the Cut off point only

Hi, for parents whose child did well for PSLE, may I know how you or your child prepared for it? My elder one did not do as expected (out of IP range) and I was wondering if there is anything i could do better so as to prepare my number 2 (who is going to P5 next year).

For my elder one, I had to make (force) her to do past year papers for all subjects. For science, I made her read the science textbooks and the PSLE notes on science. She had Chinese tuition but pretty much nothing else. Maths I think nothing really much to memorize, need to know the formula and practise a lot of papers. For English, I was not sure how to prepare her (other than doing past year papers), got her into a last minute writing class to try to improve her writing and then found lists of words online to make her go through them, know how to spell and their meanings. But along the way, I was not sure what else I can give to her or make her study. She is pretty chill one, anything goes kind, so making her study really have to depend on her mood, plus towards the end, she got really sianz of doing papers.

Please share if you have something constructive. Particularly, how your child prepared for both languages, which have so many components, it seems hard to score. I hope to take this as a learning experience to see how I can improve to support my number 2 better (who unfortunately at this stage, seems to be more slack than number 1 😔). Thank you for your time.
PSLE preparation started at P4, at least, cause, you cannot hurried the process of building the language proficiency within a very short time. In the lower primary, we focused on Languages for both my daughter and my son. My daughter dropped the English writing class in P4 while my son continue to fill p6 as he was a lazy reader. Both of them continue their Chinese tuition til p6. For maths, both of them being drilled consistently since P5. They studied science and do other school paper on their own. Both my kids made it to IP schools.

Just to add, chinese is an important language now and in future due to rise in China, I believe all kids should take effort to master the language. MY younger DD in NYGH, there is an Ang Mo student, in GEP class, her chinese is so good that her chinese compo is listed under their annual publication of best compo selection. We chinese should strive to master the language. That Ang Mo student is the younger DD of Jim Roger, the investment guru. Her bigger DD had already progressed into HCJC year 1.
Agree about the importance of Chinese... same as what I have been telling my kids.
Jim Roger's younger DD is in class 111 or 112? Students in those 2 classes are all aiming for MSG = 1.00.

                  You are absolutely correct!!
There was a couple of KSP “rallies” this year on this topic. So unnecessary and misleading.

Simple logic need not be over-complicated. Tscore is dead. Killed. Buried. No resurrections. No possible haunting of AL scores.

                  Peace. Good nite
Totally agree. Kept seeing Tscore in this forum. Why keep equating AL to Tscore? :scratchhead: Time to move on. :imcool:

My DD said it is 103, 203 next year. She said 101, 112 are elective program/talent prog classes, 102 and 103 are pure GEP students who DSA in. For those GEP students who got in through PSLE score , same as them in normal classes total 8 classes.

She uses 小蜜蜂 as her chinese written name! Her english name is short formed Bee Roger, her bigger sister in HCJC is called Happy Roger.

International school fees cost more annually than a normal person’s annual salary, not many can afford.

Just need PSLE AL score 20 (Express stream) to go international school.
