(It is neighbourhood school so there are only a little number of top performers) This year, there are only 9 children above AL8. Considering this, do you think it is possible guess that above AL8 is less than 10% this year?

Hii, My brother got AL 20 for his PSLE results and we are stuck between Yishun Secondary School and Monfort( this is further away but we chose it because it is affiliated to CJC)

Thanks so much! The info is encouraging! Can you please help me understand why with AL13 would be no problem getting into AL11? Both Fairfield Methodist and ACS Barker have affiliated primary schools. Thought would be risky? Much appreciate your advice.Oh I am so blur! Yes... I don't think we will even be told that the child went through a ballot. For all we know, maybe they just did a cut off at the end depending on the child's name.
I don't think so cause balloting can happen for all 6 choices in the worst case. If it is like that, it will be very troublesome process for MOE. We will be informed of finallly posted school only.
That's why I always :rant: that my last name is so far behind in the alphabet...

What if I find out Minister’s or some kids from rich and famous folks got in but my kid (with the same AL points) got balloted out?
I asked my hubby how long does he think is required to sort 39K+ children into sec schools based on their results and 6 choices? DH replied that it can be done in less than half a day because just need computers to run the sorting. Wonder why MOE needs to take almost a month to announce the sec sch selection outcome. -

It doesn't sound like much but a 1%-2% swing up or down could have dramatically different outcomes for COP and ballot odds. It's not just the additional 1% (11% vs. 10% or 9% vs 10%%) but how many spaces the AL4-AL7 ahead of you took up (presumably there are more or less of these too). The important consideration is how many fewer (or additional) spaces are left until you hit 10% (~IP full) compared to the additional (or fewer) people vying for these spots. The kicker is that these two factors likely turbocharge things up or down; it's not a static one more person with their name in the hat for the same number of spots.

Of course, no one knows for sure what the distribution is this year. As you have done, collecting AL4-AL8 vs. prior 250+ numbers/percentages can give us some insight with the caveat/issue being no one probably has a full year-by-year time series for all of these schools' historical rates and/or firsthand knowledge of exactly what happened this year. -

Congrats on your son achievement. AL7 is remarkable result.
Your son's and ours choices are kinda similar. I supposed we are staying around the the same area. As what a few experts here advised me, your son should have good chance for RVHS at AL7 even without HCL. Maybe just one AL11 backup plan in case of anomaly.
By the way, just a thought.. If your son doesn't mind started off at EXP, maybe he can consider ACS(I) EXP at AL9. If he performs well at Sec1 & Sec2, there is a chance for promotion to IP track at Sec3. But as one expert here said, gotta to note that ACS(I) IP leads to IB, and not A level.
It is good that he considers SJI. A pity that my son joined SJI e-Open House and told me the presentation was boring, and he learned nothing, and scratched it off his list. :roll:

I have noticed that many AL 7 in this forum! Hence, I am quite unsure if is wise to put HCI as his 1st choice, as he didnt take HCL.
If u are staying around the same area, today we actually drove to all school above and let him look at the \"school\" and surrounding + travel time/route for him from our place.
HCI/NJC is the most convenient, MRT to MRT, less than 30 mins from our place (downtown line)
SJI is further down abit but there is a direct bus about 40mins
ACSI is also direct bus ~ 50 mins
RVHS direct bus too 40 mins!
