Hi, in case u didnt know…the 3 UGs mentioned in your topic header also require marching & footdrills.

Not sure if he can manage in such precision drills. If willing to try, would be a good preview of army days.

Thanks zac’s mum. I think for him foot drills still okay. Wonder abt the “tests” they have. To attain badge and promo. And tying knots. I think my kid cannot 😅

If the school has a symphonic band, and if your DS likes learning to play an instrument, you can try. Symphonic bands are not military bands and do not march.

Thanks chief kiasu. If child has no music background, will they take in for symphonic band and teach?

Also. Would love to hear if anyone whose kids are in scouts and have some info to share eg the rigour (competitive to complete tests and get badges), inclusiveness (will child with adhd avoid) etc. do they emphasise on helping each other, looking out for one another.

Hmm... no problem during my time, as not everyone would be exposed to a trumpet or clarinet when they are young 😂 . They will teach you to learn to read music notes. But for string instruments like the violin, they did require people who already knows music (eg. piano). So I guess that is more atas.

I cannot understand NCC or NPCC. Why do kids want to join them?? Just wait 6 more years and you can experience it full on! 😂

I think learning to shoot air rifle or pistol can be fun? Reality is you may not have a choice, as often you need to put down at least one UG on your CCA selection list. In the end, I think many of these are all similar; learn some life skills/discipline and enjoy the time with your classmates/CCA mates doing non-academic things for a few hours per week.

                      From Singapore Scouts Association website

                      https://scout.sg/promise-law

                      THE SCOUT PROMISE
On my Honour I promise that I will do my best
To do my duty to God and the Republic of Singapore
                      To help other people and
                      To keep the Scout Law

                      THE SCOUT LAW
A Scout is to be trusted
                      A Scout is loyal
A Scout makes friends, establishes and maintains harmonious relations
A Scout is disciplined and considerate
A Scout has courage in all difficulties

I do believe teamwork & inclusiveness is emphasized, no worries there. But perhaps those in secondary school Scouts can elaborate more.
