U are wrong. Choice matters this year. I guessed most popular schools will be filled up by 1st or 2nd choice at the most. Even you have AL4 in third choice, u cannot even replace AL6 in those who chooses RGS in 1st or 2nd choice. Use your choice wisely. Cumulative % holders of AL 4 and AL 5 = 6.86% + 6.05% = 12.91%
I rebase this to 3%, hence divide by a factor of 4.3. (i.e. 12.91% divide by 4.3% = 3%)
Cross check - Cumulative % holders till AL8 = 38.04%, divide by 4.3, is about 8.84 %
So to divide by a factor of 4.3 is to correct the skewed results. This is just my way, no mathematical principle behind. That's why I said divide by 4 earlier for simplicity.
Actually, we don't know if the number of AL 4 and AL 5 is really 4%, but well... thanks for explaining! -

This is a play safe strategy because if choice 1 fails, the chance of getting into choice 2 will be higher because COP is AL result + 1. Isnt this the strategy which MOE is advising parents to do? That is to include choices that are AL result + 1 or 2.

2) COP of AL 10
3). COP of AL 10
4). COP of AL 11
5). COP AL 11
6). COP AL 12 or AL 13.

If choice 1 dream school COP got bumped up to AL9 and choice 2 and 3 conduct balloting for AL10, those place the school as 1st choice will get through first. So the student may now end up at choice 4 or 5.
Furthermore not every parent or student chooses school solely on COP as well. And when it comes to S1 posting, its important to be realistic about dream school. If your grade doesn't meet the COP, there is really no point dreaming about it. -
Some of the confusion over choice order and merit (AL score) is probably caused by a misestimate of the # of AL4 and AL5 students. If we assume the total % of AL4 + AL5 students is 3%, that translates to 1173 students. Of these, I guess at least half would already be admitted through DSA. That leaves about, let’s say, 600 to go through S1 posting. Divide that by half gives 300 boys and 300 girls (more likely 200 boys vs. 400 girls). Unless they all somehow choose the same school as their first choice, then there is no possibility that AL4 or AL5 would not get into their first choices.
As many have said, no school has a COP below AL6. No point worrying about those lucky ones with AL4 and 5 – they will all get in their first choice, while still leaving spaces (not sure how many though) in every school for the rest. -

Hi all. Would appreciate as much advice and thoughts from you, regarding my son's predicament. Read all the previous posts (very insightful and valuable), but did not come across anything similar to our situation so far...
He is a Singapore Citizen and scored AL9. His dream was to take the IP-IB course at ACSI (1st) then SJI (2nd), but if not, then ACSI Express, followed by SJI-Express. Unfortunately, the indicative COP for ACSI-IP is AL7 and SJI-IP is AL8. Right now, we are considering this option:
OptionA: 1. SJI IP - COP 8, 2. ACSI Express - COP 9, 3. SJI Express - COP 10
- Try for the slim chance that this year's SJI IP COP = 9 and he will have priority being SC and 1st choice.
- No point in putting ACSI IP into my selection, so ACSI Express as 2nd choice (he is willing to work hard for the opportunity of requesting to switch over to the IP track after his 2nd or 4th year).
- But if SJI IP COP = 8 as per MOE indicative, then my dilemma starts:
(a) What if ACS Express COP = 8 this year instead of what MOE had indicated?
(b) What if ACS Express COP = 9 as per MOE indicative, but because he has put it as 2nd choice, he will lose out with others with AL9 who are SC and 1st choice?
(c) If SJI Express COP = 10 as per MOE indicative, then I understand that regardless which choice order he had put in, his AL9 would guarantee him a spot (if his earlier choices failed). But what if SJI Express COP = 9, but because he has put it as 3rd choice, he will lose out with others with AL9 who are SC and 1st or 2nd choice?
OR, after all is said and done, is it wiser just going with the following 2nd and 3rd options instead?

Dear parents.
My girl got 7M. I hoped max 8 or 9 point bcoz she had quite hard time in p6. So her result 7(M) really surprised me.
At first, I thought this year’s cohort doing so well???? Only her??? Was the test easier than usual?
These questions are still hovering in my head.
What if too many 7 scorers out there? Many balloting which we want to avoid bcoz of ‘PR’ status could happen.
We’re thinking NYG, NJC, RVH as top 3 choice now.
NYG and NJC are too risky for PR student?
Living in Clementi/West coast so Nan hua, Fairfield, Commonwealth will be next 3 choice.
