Have you ever think from another way?? Based on your calculation, a kid 89+89+89+92, T score around 262. But AL 7. I don’t know you are a parent or a kid. You tried to link AL to T score about the whole year. Actually meaningless
An 89 89 89 92 result in 2020 will actually be around 265, not 262. May I know how did you come up to 262?
The example you given is perhaps the most unlucky of all because, for 1 extra mark for 3 subjects, AL7 will become AL4.

Yes, it is what my company trying to do now. Instead of updating our IT system in the midnight, we sometimes will have our system downtime during lunch time or on weekend.

Hello! I don't think is wasted at all. It would be really tiring to travel an hour by bus, plus in this pandemic situation, I don't think the journey would be any enjoyable. Moreover there is no guarantee with all that time invested in the travel just to get to RV, the kid will like the school/teachers/classmates etc. Also taking into consideration secondary school's dismissal times, which are generally later than primary school and the ending time on CCA days, the kid may be so tired everyday by the time she gets home. I am sure you and your DD have made the best choices, don't look back.

Why is RGS so special?
I really think RGS should avoid conducting balloting for AL5 if it is just because of 1 or 2 extra applicants because that will really traumatize 2022 cohort parents who are hoping to get their girls to RGS. Perhaps RGS should make some provisions to increase the cohort size?? (if its possible)
How to traumatise the 2022 cohort parents? Only RGS parents will feel traumatized? All P6 parents are equally worried. We all know AL COP may fluctuate year from year. We will never know if it’s 1 or 2 or 20 applicants who were left out. -

When MOE announced indicative AL COP early this year, parents who wish their child to get admitted to top IP schools may have targeted AL6 to ensure a place in the top IP schools. But if RGS or NYGH get bumped up to AL5, then the 2022 cohort will have to up their expectation to AL5. AL5 is a tall order if you ask me because students will need a min of 3 AL1 subjects + 1 AL2. There are no other permutations such as AL 1 1 1 3 or AL 1 1 2 2

In fact my friend, who is now a Singapore citizen, told me that it is commonly shared in the expatriate group chats to aim for AL 4 and 5 to secure top 4 schools so that they will not lose out in terms of priority over citizenship. They are already very good at their MT and math, just need to brush up eng and sci to secure the other two AL1. In fact, many do very well!

Yes, something that didn’t exist in the old system. Singaporean first.
That means all those with AL6 who put RGS as 1st choice, Singaporeans will be accepted first before PRs and foreigners.
But there is one way PRs/foreigners can walk straight into top schools, that is to score AL4 and AL5
Trying to calculate balloting risk does not quite work as no one knows the breakdown of Singaporeans/PRs/foreigners and their choices of school.
Try lah, no risk no gain, just make sure to have a safety net at the 5th and 6th choice to ‘catch’ you/your kid just in case. -

When you referred them as \"THEY\", it does sound like everyone or every Chinese ex-pat in the chat group have smart children. I am sure that's not the case because I have seen PRC children who struggle with math and other subjects.
