RGS or NYGH is unlikely to get to COP 5. Statistics and maths say it so.
Just because you said so that doesn't mean its maths or statistic.

If it is statistically or mathematically impossible, then you won't use the word unlikely.

Perhaps you can share how you came to that conclusion.

When you referred them as \"THEY\", it does sound like everyone or every Chinese ex-pat in the chat group have smart children. I am sure that's not the case because I have seen PRC children who struggle with math and other subjects.
'They' as in the kids of the few hundred parents in that group chat. The super on parents consolidated the AL reported by parents in that group chat. Their kids really did well.

Can you share the statistic? what is the percentage of AL4 and AL5 students this year?

IMO, MOE is unlikely to adjust any cohort sizes due to balloting issues. Doing it for one school would mean you need to potentially do it for every school, which means the allocation process will never end. And if they do it this year for one school do they keep doing it every year for just this one school (or a handful of schools)? I think they are simply going to push the \"run\" button and students will be posted wherever they may.

Also, it is worth nothing that while in the past ESIS was ~Top 3% (or whatever number it is) or ~1,200 students, there is nothing requiring the number of ESIS students in AL4-AL5 to be exactly this number going forward (even if there was a past relationship between 260-261 and AL5). T-score was a forced ranking / statistical distribution of the students' score; this is part of the reason why t-score distributions and t-score COPs were relatively stable. In contrast, AL scores are absolute and the number of students that hit AL4-AL5 could move up and down a fair amount depending on paper difficult and cohort performance. I'm not suggesting the number is going to be 0 or 4,000 in any year, but it could vary relatively more than it did (with regards to those above 260) in the past, especially with a new scoring system that incentives students to get a combination of scores that is AL4-AL5 (vs. a combination of unbalanced scores that was likely to produce 260+).

Given the relatively blunt slicing of the cohort into AL levels, it is possible ESIS (AL5) covers only something like 2.5% of the cohort or it could cover substantially more, like 3.5%. These two figures are entirely made up but the point is MOE does not have the ability to cut it off (ESIS threshold) as precisely as they did in the past when they could move by 1 t-score point at a time to find the % they were looking for. Obviously, 2.5% or 3.5% would result in pretty different outcomes for a handful of schools (or it could be pretty close to 3% again).

Which way will it go? I think there are actually a number of factors that are going in opposite directions here, and while it's likely we all have some guesses the only certainty is that we'll find out in late-December. Good luck to everyone that is waiting for results!
Maybe an itchy hand MP can raise this question to education minister in parliament over how many % of ESIS was awarded for the past 5/10 years, and how many benefit from ESIS.. Then number will come out..

Gotta talk to MP on next MPS..

What MOE share is based on 2020 S1 posting result where applicants made their choices using t-score result and indicative t-score COP. In 2020 we know that RGS COP is 1 point lower than 2019. (260 vs 261).

Since we know 258 is the lowest AL6 COP for 2020 (MGS), we can then estimate AL5 lowest t-score to be around 261 (5 raw score marks) \"coincidentally\" 261 and AL5 are also the COP for ESIS.

I really think RGS should avoid conducting balloting for AL5 if it is just because of 1 or 2 extra applicants because that will really traumatize 2022 cohort parents who are hoping to get their girls to RGS. Perhaps RGS should make some provisions to increase the cohort size?? (if its possible)
I think u worried too much. I am quite sure cop for RGS will still maintain AL6. I remember the cohort size is about 380 during my elder DD time, 12 classes, although that is 3 years ago. It is already 1 of the biggest sec school intake. Except for NYGH and their counterpart boy schools, don't think u can find others which had 12 classes. There are other good schools, for instance, my younger DD went to NYGH last year PSLE, although I asked her to join her sister. They had classmates who influenced their choice of school. Let them choose their own. My wife who is an old gal of scgs, actually wanted my elder DD to go scgs, but my bigger DD thought the uniform looked ugly.

                  2020 AL6 COP school (258-260)
                  2020 AL7 COP school (255-257)
                  2020 AL8 COP school (252-254)

                  2019 RGS COP 261

How can you be quite sure when the statistic show otherwise?

Same scenario, for those Singaporeans who are working in overseas, will it be fair to them even though their kids are intelligent and studying hard with excellent exam results but cannot go for local prestige universities because of their nationality?

Education should mainly on academic results and not on nationality, gender, races or religions.[/quote]
Unfortunately, it base on Nationality and gender. This is how i feel.

This year cohort is really a guinea pig. At least, MOE should have given the percentage distribution for each AL for this year and last year. It is really hard and unpredictable to choose schools only relying on the AL cop produced based on simulation.
