It seems strange for graduates of a Math & Science school to go for medicine instead of engineering... but different strokes for different folks
I'm happy for them.
Maybe we should have a School of Medicine in Singapore? -
Will the side gates accessible for year1 students on first week of school ? Saw that they can only be entered with school card access. It will be a long walk from side gate at AYE.
-
Usually the side gate will be open in the morning by the security guard so there is no need to have a student card. In the event that the security guard did not open the gate or they are required to report to front gate for the first day of school, then the long walk may be necessary.

Well, NUSH students also do triple science that include Biology at Honours level which is H3. Chemistry is the only requirement for Medicine in SG. Others like Cambridge also includes Physics. So it is no surprise that NUSH student has better chance for Medicine at Yong Loo Lin (NUS) and LKC-ICL (NTU) because some of theses student Advanced research project is in medicine.
Thanks macflashpay!

Yes, based upon the small cohort size so far ( 129 ( batch in 2016) to between 170 - 220 (all other batches)) , about 5% to 10% of student went to do medicine in SG/oversea.
With the research & innovative spirit of Explore, Experiment and Excel nurturing and ingrained early in this NUSH cohort, a more appropriate questions might be - how many per batch actually went on to pursue their PhD studies in the field of maths and science ?
In fact, NUSH did achieve its objective in nurturing future scientist as it is the high school (JC) in SG which has the highest no of PhD per student population since its inception in 2005.
Well, I know from batch 2011 onward that that there at least a few (3-5) per batch . you need to check with the alumni office (if they are releasing) for details. For example 2011 (4 out of 2xx), 2013 (4 out of 2xx), 2014 (3 out of 2000 ), 2015 (4 out of 190), 2016 ( 7 out of 129), 2017 (3 out of 160) etc. -

It really isn't strange, if one knows the curriculum of school well and how broad it is. It allows its annual cohort of 180 to excel in whatever area they want to and the students are not \"straight-jacketed\" into pre-conceived pathways. A little known fact is that the school also has a very good Art and Music program, which some graduands take together with their Majors in Math and the Sciences.
Each year, the cohort also produces a very decent number of students (relative to its size) who do Law as well. -
Thanks for the info! I guess "Science" is a catch-all phrase which includes medicine then. As long as there are exciting options for students to aspire towards, it is ok.

Eh....sorry i blur..is this new? I tot Science always includes combination of Physics, Chem and biology? Many scientists works on medicine and vaccines etc.. how is it that Maths and Science students= Engineering only? and not = STEM including Science(phy, chem, bio), Technology, Engineering and Maths??? suddenly I machiam got brain freeze.. bam! hahahaha :imcool: :imcool: :imcool: :? :? cannot comprehend.. maybe WFH too long.

Anyhow, A levels or IB or NUSH Dip, as long as they are all passionate in that area and can contribute.. who are we to judge right? Doesnt mean All kids who goes into 1 school generally becomes that 1 occupation mah! If they abide by the Hippocratic Oath then we welcome medical students to help us fight viruses and diseases...
Congrats to the newly matriculated NUSHies! -
Sorry, sorry⦠must be my stupid aversion to anything biology that warped my thinking. By the way, does biology automatically links to medicine? Noob here.
Yes, congrats to NUSHies. -
