I think this AL system is more stressful than what we have been told. The extent of balloting seems rather high even among Singaporeans I.e. depends on luck.

Another consequence could be on mentality of parents, those who are balloted into top schools will be perceived as more lucky rather than better scorers than those who were balloted out. So gradually the top schools may lose some lustre? That will be welcomed change by MOE.

for RI or RGS to even start viewing document of appeal for transfer, there must be someone gives up his/her place in RI / RGS. i doubt there will be more than 5 vacancies become available at all.
With the new AL grading, I think the % of students appealing would be higher than previous years with the T-Score. Like in the case of RI, many AL6 would appeal. I wonder what would the criteria be for selection in the appeal cases.

Regardless of citizenship. What really important is AL grades. The better you are overall, no need to ballot esp for AL4. AL5 still might ballot if there are too many AL4 going to the same school. Citizenship is a way to keep us cool down.
SO Try to aim for AL 4 next year if you still have children..... -

Yes imagine those who got balloted might have gone into these schools under the previous system without having to appeal at all. However, no one will ever know for sure .

Think you are trying to scare the parents, AL4 & 5, they can go any school. Majority of AL6 can enter RGS or RI. Only minority will be balloted out, and those are the ones who complains in this forum.

Totally agreed on the above. Regardless of citizenship. What really important is AL grades. The better you are overall, no need to ballot esp for AL4. AL5 still might ballot if there are too many AL4 going to the same school. Citizenship is a way to keep us cool down.

Why worse score can be balloted in ahead of better score?

This is a good point. To me, the difference between the top tier of schools- i.e., those with SBGE (RI, RGS, HCI, NYGH, ACS, DHS, NUS High), followed by IP schools- is not significant in terms of quality of education. Mainly down to culture and CCA and, yes, prestige. If the perception is that someone entering RI instead of ACS is down to luck as opposed to ability, the clamour for the top few may be lesser, and no one would feel aggrieved getting their second choice instead of their first as long as it is within the same tier.

AL COP can be deceiving as it may give parents and students the false hope to apply for schools which under tscore system will not get a chance to even ballot.
which is why parents and students need to be careful with the school choices and order of choices.
So for 2022 the gold standard will be AL5 to get into RI and RGS
