I have excluded HCL grade change because that is a secondary concern and unlikely to provide any meaningful or predictable trend from year to year.
St nicks and RVHS COP effectively dropped as well -

Affiliation and DSA, these 2 occupy the most slot in those popular schools. Because of Singaporean first in sec1 posting, I saw a pike in PR and foreigner already ramp up their kids in sport and other activities, for the sake of DSA.
With TJC at AL8 now, those without MTL having scored AL1 for EL, AL1 Math and AL1 for Sc but got to be assigned AL6 for exempted MTL effectively would now be AL9 and has no IP school since no HCL for RVHS. They got to either DSA or try to transfer to IP school at end of Sec 1 or Sec 2 if they are still able to continue excelling in their other secondary level subjects -

From what I read today, seems like many IP schools conduct balloting at 1st choice (at the COP).
#2. Would be interesting to hear from more people that met COP and were ballot out of first choice. I.e. based on prior replies ACS(I), HCI, and SCGS IP first choice at COP did not necessarily make it. Not sure about other IP schools like MGS IP, SNGS IP, NJC, Cedar, VS IP, CHS IP, TJC, RVHS, SJI, DHS? My sense is AL8 extended beyond Top 10%, and I am interested whether AL8 gave you only one try at IP school (if don't like CL and RVHS option) or were there any students at the COP and second choice that got in?
Very hard to say, like what one forumer shared earlier - 1st choice SCGS IP and 2nd choice Cedar IP couldn’t get in, end up 3rd choice St Nic O-levels. So very sure Cedar IP did not conduct balloting at 3rd choice else the student would have gotten in. So Cedar IP likely to have conducted balloting at either 1st choice or 2nd choice? Unless we have more data points from parents/students willing to share.
1st batch is guinea pig for the new AL system. Will take a few batches to stabilize. -

Same here, my neighbor DD is AL7D, did not get in, so called up office to realise COP is AL7D, but was informed there is only 1 and last student who went in at AL7D, the rest are all AL6 and below. They aren't many students with D in HCL
Not sure about that but I know that for NYGH, the COP went up from 7(M) to 7(D), causing my neighbor’s kid being cut-off -

My son is RVHS sec 2. There is no strict shoes rule. Mainly white color is ok. Brand logo like Adidas,Nike, if not too big or colourful, no issues so far.
DS Singaporean AL7M, first choice HCI, 2nd ACSI, posted to 3rd choice of RVHS.
Worry is over, now is time to book slot for books and uniform purchase. Need to report to school on 10 Jan 22 with full RVHS uniform.
Anyone know if RV has shoes rules? -

I have thought for a while that if there is a \"killer paper,\" it is best if it comes in your strongest subject, and that this advantage (or disadvantage if it comes in your weakest subject) is more pronounced under AL than under t-score (which was only a relative measure). Of course, this assumes that the strong and weak subjects are (somewhat?) equally distributed amongst the cohort, which may not be the case.
This is stressful! How many kids can get AL5 that allows only 1 subject to be below 90% (but still need it to be >= 85%)?
Which means that one must be a high-performing all-rounder coz every year there’ll be a killer paper or two set. Sweat!
At the end of the day, any paper can be a \"killer\" under these conditions if unfortunately you can't see the problem/solution and start pressing. And preparation wise, ex-ante there's nothing one can or should do differently. Just assume everything will be reasonably challenging and try to slog through it best you can.
But you are correct that the playbook for trying to secure a spot has changed under the two systems. Previously, if you were really good at two subjects then 90 vs. 89, 85 vs. 84, or 80 vs. 79 was not that important (on one or maybe even two other subjects). -

Your info about \"only 1 AL7D get in to NYGH\" is highly valulable, with an actual number.

This is perfectly normal and expected for IP schools because most students' 1st choice schools will have AL COP similar to their AL scores. This is to say, student school choices are mostly driven by AL COP. ie. what is the best school I can try with my current AL.
From what I read today, seems like many IP schools conduct balloting at 1st choice (at the COP).

And of course, there will be those AL7 who wasted their 1st choice by applying for AL6 COP schools, and end up with AL8 school choice. -
