Anyone know for sure where Nan Chiau High and Nan Hua High ended up? NHHS appeal form only says "11" (Indicative COP of AL11(D)).

Other schools with (historically) similar COP appear to have matched the indicative level:
-Crescent Girls = AL11 (school website)
-Chung Cheng High Main = AL11(D) (reported)
      -Anglican High = AL12(P) (reported)

Just came back from a good dinner to celebrate my daughter’s school posting. We are happy with our girl’s St Nick posting as we really like the school and it is just 3 bus stops away from our home.

On the whole idea of IP vs OP, I think perhaps MOE can set a COP for IP in the same way as Third Language, e.g. AL8. Students who meet the IP COP will be admitted to IP as long as they can find a school that offers this program. In this way, there will not be the scenario that Girl A with AL 8 gets admitted into SCGS IP while another girl with same score gets admitted into SCGS OP.

I understand some parents are trying to help explain the MOE logic and intention in this forum. But again, this is a new system, and just as parents are expected to understand and adjust to it, but shouldn’t MOE review whether there is any space for refinement?

            I think,
            Subgroup 1 ( AL6 + SG + Choice 1) 8 students
            Subgroup 4 (AL6 + SG + Choice 2) 2 student
            Subgroup 2 (AL6 + PR + Choice 1) 2 students
            Subgroup 5 (AL6 + PR + Choice 2) 5 students
            Subgroup 3 (AL6 + IS + Choice 1) 10 students

            Subgroup 6 (AL6 + IS + Choice 2) 3 students
In reality, the order will be more granular as below.

            Subgroup 1 (AL6 + SG + Choice 1)
            Subgroup 2 (AL6 + SG + Choice 2)
            Subgroup 3 (AL6 + SG + Choice 3)
            Subgroup 4 (AL6 + SG + Choice 4)
            Subgroup 5 (AL6 + SG + Choice 5)
            Subgroup 6 (AL6 + SG + Choice 6)
            Subgroup 7 (AL6 + PR + Choice 1)
            ...
            ...
            Subgroup 12 (AL6 + PR + Choice 6)
            Subgroup 13 (AL6 + IS + Choice 1)
            ...
            ...

              Subgroup 13 (AL6 + IS + Choice 1)
              ...
              ...
For SAP schools, it gets more complicated as each subgroup is further divided into:

              Subgroup 1 (AL6D + SG + Choice 1)
              Subgroup 2 (AL6D + SG + Choice 2)
              Subgroup 3 (AL6D + SG + Choice 3)
              Subgroup 4 (AL6D + SG + Choice 4)
              Subgroup 5 (AL6D + SG + Choice 5)
              Subgroup 6 (AL6D + SG + Choice 6)
              subgroup 6 (AL6M + SG + Choice 1)
              Subgroup 7 (AL6M + PR + Choice 2)
              ...

For balloting to happen, I didn't realise that it can get into so many subgroups until I started to list them down.

no one will put AL6 school as 3rd or 4th choice because in 2020 only 3 schools have AL6 COP.

                e.g 1st choice rgs 2nd choice mgs..

My post in this open discussion neither intended to conspire nor tarnish. It was merely to critically think if there are other criteria used to determine which Singaporean children within the same AL, same priority school choice gets their choice over all the rest, or that the many children who are on the AL COP are really just subjected to pure luck for their postings. As pointed out by Chief, it is truly a random process of ballot. No need for hostility from some members that borders on hate speech against me, really. Thanks
I understood you posted it as a personal opinion ( and you did state IMHO” too) to be debated. Cheers!

Understand. I was trying to list down the different subgroups possible. So AL6 is not a good example.

From what I read today, seems like many IP schools conduct balloting at 1st choice (at the COP).

Very hard to say, like what one forumer shared earlier - 1st choice SCGS IP and 2nd choice Cedar IP couldn’t get in, end up 3rd choice St Nic O-levels. So very sure Cedar IP did not conduct balloting at 3rd choice else the student would have gotten in. So Cedar IP likely to have conducted balloting at either 1st choice or 2nd choice? Unless we have more data points from parents/students willing to share.

1st batch is guinea pig for the new AL system. Will take a few batches to stabilize.
Yeah, I inferred the same on Cedar from the referenced post. In hindsight, there may have been too much reliance on \"AL8 = Top 10%, and Top 10% = Can go IP\" (as mentioned, MOE only fixed Third Language/HMT at AL8 and we don't know exactly how much of the cohort AL8 covered in either 2020 PSLE or 2021 PSLE).

There may have also been some warnings signs re ballot risk at AL8, just as there were for some of the higher ranking ALs (i.e. AL6). There were a lot of AL8 schools in the indicative COPs with the lowest corresponding t-score COP of 252 (I think). The lowest AL8 combinations of 335-340 raw marks may have brought a lot more students into play here. Additionally, some students may have targeted studies/prep to try and hit AL8 (for hopes of IP).

It may be that AL8 (into AL8 COP school) is all SC, similar to AL6 (I thought DHS AL8(D) non-SC may have a decent shot despite being at Indicative COP but apparently not everyone made it here; unclear if ballot was SC or PR level).

                        Hi parents

For students doing well academically, celebrate it. Credits to their parents as well. It seem doing academically well has its own set of worries too, for some. I agree IP schools offer more exposures to those ready for it. And among IP schools, some of them offer more rigorous curriculum. It will stretch those academically strong students further. So top IP schools have their attractive values. And the biggest benefits for all IP students, they get to skip common exam. And ofcourse top IP schools offer prestige and network, which is important to some.

I am suggesting to those academically strong student/parents of them, non IP schools do offers some benefits to them too. Ultimately it is up parents/student to weigh long term benefits vs level of commitments required when deciding top IP school or other IP schools, or IP vs mainstream.

I know of children who PSLE results qualify them for any secondary schools. They chose a main steam school instead. These are the observations:

                        - values pick up from that mainstream school. They utter this sentence: “ life is not perfect. You just have to deal with problems when they occur”. They are learning resilience.

                        - because they have good academic foundation, school exam are relative smooth going for them. Free time on hand to play

                        - get to receive Edusave award yearly. It will be very tough to get it if they go into IP schools instead because of the competition

                        - as for the concern non IP school will not stretch them academically as much as IP school, I observed this: ASTAR science award is awarded to academically strong students in math/science . Only a few from each school received it. And not all schools’ students receive it. The recipients are mostly from IP schools, which is logical. But some are from mainstream schools. 1 of the child from mainstream school mentioned earlier, receive the award. It shows mainstream school curriculums are not inferior to IP schools.
