Why not. Based on last year mgs cop for the last student of 258, this can be AL6 or AL7.
Anyway, u can see the cop for schools did not really deviate much from last year, I guess the raw scores are moderated to fit in the usual distribution, which I believed was done all the while. It is difficult to score above 90 marks for some subjects especially English. My DD never did score anything above 90 for English and science in pri 5 & 6 including prelim. But when last year psle results are released, she got A* for both these subjects as well, so I believe the raw score is moderated.
I believe no of AL4, AL5, AL6 are fixed in this way.
Others have also posted prior info on A* being fixed at 91 as well. Granted, the referenced docs are from many years ago, and I am aware of the large number of parents that can't figure out how their kid possibly scored A* in certain subjects. I don't have a definitive view on this one, but I am more likely to think A* was still fixed at 91.
If the students were not big into practice exams and tuition during P1-P5, they can make up a lot of ground in the June - Sept period before PSLE; during this period you don't need to learn anything new and can just concentrate on pulling up the weaker areas within each subject. If your child did a fair amount of PSLE prep with specific focus on challenging areas, the scores could come back better. I know of a fair number of like kids this year that were always AL6-AL7 in primary school and came back AL4 on PSLE. And again, MOE has told us that score is NOT moderated so they broke 90 at PSLE on all four papers. -

My earlier post talked about clustering choices of school of indicative COP AL10 to AL12 for a AL10 pointer.
The other post is about taking a risk to get into one’s dream school even if the indicative COP is 1 point lower than one’s PSLE AL score. This option depends on one’s risk appetite.
Two different strategies with different contexts, no need to nitpick and choose to selectively ignore the context. -

My DD told me in her last year prelim exam, nobody in her class goes beyond 90 for English, although her class is top class in the neighborhood school. But coming to psle actual score, a good 10 of them got A* for English. I don't know how to explain that. Unless the marking standard is quite different from her primary school, but her school teachers are also among the psle markers.

a) MOE simulation is based on 2020 S1 posting outcome
b) MOE simulation doesnt change or alter the choice or order of schools
Under 2021 AL S1 posting, the pool of students with the same AL result will be much bigger, which mean more students will be competing for the same top or more popular schools -

Yeah, I understand, and as mentioned I am not 100% sure here either. You can read in the post below where people talked about 70% of kids getting A or A* in normal CL, which seems odd given how many people struggle with MT (CL specifically). A grade was 75-90 so the MT percentage is the one that sticks out a lot (recently, MOE said about half the cohort scores above ~75 for each subject). Unfortunately, I don't think this data set is available anymore at data.gov.sg (only A* - C, which isn't helpful for this).

Thus, it is possible the A* (and A) letter grades were awarded to a wider range of actual raw marks in recent years, depending on the subject. I don't think this is the case but it isn't something I would entirely rule out either (not withstanding the posts referencing prior info about A*). In the end, the letter grades awarded under t-score were kind of meaningless and just for show. The actual score was what mattered (vs. the actual mean and actual standard deviation) to get the subject t-score.
Regardless, I think it is quite clear that AL is raw marks only.
