But at the end of 6 years they all have to take the same A level exam.

So why is task 1 more superior?

Does it guarantee better A level result?

If not then how can it worth more in value?
Of course it is the same uni entrance exam and no secondary school guarantees future results.

Not sure why it is so hard to understand that not every person values all ALX schools the same. SAP, IP(IB), Co-ed, location, etc are all reasons why students may want one over the other (even if that means taking on low ballot odds).

And because there is no guarantee of A Level results, that's the same reason why some people aren't so scared of missing (or wasting a choice on) ALX #2 or ALX #3 and getting posted to ALX+1 #4 orALX+2 #5. They want ALX+1 a lot more than they want ALX #2 or ALX #3 even if ALX #3 has the best odds.

Everyone can select their choices however they want. Again, I just disagreed with the instructions that at ALX you should always choose the school at ALX with the so called \"best odds.\"

Have a good one. Merry Christmas!!!

Your illustration is using a common $$ value as an example which runs into millions.
This makes S1 posting sounds more like a lottery with different odds but in reality, the real prize is the end result (A Level result).

Since we know 80% of 2021 students got posted to one of the top 3 school choices, hence I don't think I am wrong to say that school preferences are ranked in #1 #2 #3 order instead of #1 #4 #5

You are lost. I'm fine with the following:

#1. ALX - low odds but love it
#2. ALX - medium odds, like it a little more than #3 and #4 but not much difference
#3. ALX - better odds, like it a little more than #4 but not much difference
#4. ALX+1 - great odds (but not guaranteed), like it a little more than #5 but not much difference
#5. ALX+2 - almost certain odds (nothing is guaranteed)

You want everyone to forgo #1 and #2 and put #3 as first choice? I thought that was the advice. If some kid loves SAP or loves IP(IB), why should he do that?

          Merry Christmas!

the example of the parent who mentioned his son lose out on HCI and ACSI is the reason why I would say that #2 and #3 will end up with zero odds

So that only odds here is just low odds despite having 3 choices

I edited my original post to add more detail.

Yes to the part in bold. But what is the problem with that if I like #1 much more than #2-#3, and I am fine with #4 or #5? I thought you want everyone to put #3 as first choice?

If that's the case, then #2 and #3 should be omitted because it serves no purpose to increase the odds or offer any gratification. So won't it be better to have #4 as #2 instead. At least it will increase the odds if #4 ALX+1 becomes ALX

Since the S1 posting is already out, it is useless to talk about anything AFTER the fact. Any insistence on one being right or wrong only serves to feed one’s ego with no actual help. My wish this Christmas is for all parents to do what’s best for their children and being able to support their learning journey. There is no point insisting one is correct if one is not open to learn from others. Always remember, if others are willing to point out your mistake or misconception, they are doing u a favour. If an adult do not want to learn, no one can stop u.

Indeed EQ is very important. In case anyone is not aware - Emotional intelligence is most often defined as the ability to perceive, use, understand, manage, and handle emotions. If parents don’t know how to handle their emotions (including managing their egos), how can we teach our children on how to get along with others. Good luck to all and yes Merry Christmas.

For the part in bold, that's what I originally wrote. At AL7 something, I'd go for HCI first choice and then any number of SAP schools following that (all of which are higher than AL7). The direct reply to the post was to skip HCI (which I continued to disagree with) as some other school with the same ALX COP would offer better odds.

As for skipping #2 and #3 altogether, I would still suggest Option A over Option B if someone likes #2 and #3 slightly more than #4 (i.e. scenario described here):

                    Option A:
#1. ALX - low odds (say 10% simply for illustrative purpose).
#2. ALX - 2nd choice very very low odds, likely 0% but possibly 0.01% if lucky
#3. ALX - 3rd choice very very low odds, likely 0% but possibly 0.01% if lucky
                    #4. ALX+1 - roughly 100% - 10% - 0.01% - 0.01% = 89.98%

                    Option B:
#1. ALX - low odds (say 10% simply for illustrative purpose).
                    #2. ALX+1 - roughly 100% - 10% = 90%

What's the risk to Option A? As you've mentioned, #4 could drop from ALX+1 to ALX, in which case second choice may have some chance vs forth choice likely no chance. But if #4 and #5 (ALX+2) are basically the same to me I think the risk (#4 drops to ALX) and reward (somehow get lucky on #2 or #3) is balance. You could disagree here and if it is shown that year after year #2 and #3 are always 0%, then I would go with Option B.

                    Again, Merry Christmas!!!!!

Ok, let's make it easy, both SG KP1 and Veryon are correct because they have their own thinking and beliefs and all the mistakes are in me (Liew Nga Wing) and so if anyone want to point finger on the \"mistake person\", please point to me and I apologise my mistakes to all.

We can disagree with other beliefs but we cannot force them to give up their beliefs.

Once again, please blame all the mistakes to me not anyone in this forum.

The original intent of our discussion is to evaluate if its wise to put a 3 AL7 COP school as #1 #2 #3 without considering which AL7 school has got a higher chance. For this case I am sure the natural order will be HCI ACSI and NJC.

Like I said, if #2 and #3 to you serve no purpose or value, why dont you just put your #4 choice as #2 instead?
