Bank scams
-
I received 2 msgs …say transaction function of my oxx acct will be suspended…click to prevent…
-
Call the bank hotline to verify before taking any action.
-
I think the best course is NEVER to click on a link sent by WA, SMS, email etc. that comes from a bank or other "official" entity. Just go to your account through the official website and check.
-
It seems scams come from SMS.
Anybody received dubious messages claimed from banks via WhatsApp? -
I dont think banks will use Whatsapp ba.
I once received an SMS from my credit card company saying an unauthorized txn of 0.78 USD by Hotel Indigo had been made. Reply 1 if yes, reply 2 if not recgnized. I just ignored it.
They followed up with a phone call, which was legit cos didn’t ask for my personal details except for last 4 digits of NRIC and birthdate. Plus he could view my previous bill txns & said new credit card will be sent to my address. No action on my part except to activate new card whenever I wanted, on the official app or website. -

Ooh... that was insidious. So was the SMS a real message from the bank?

It was. But what I meant to say is, don’t feel pressured or be in a hurry to respond or click any such things.

If it’s real & urgent, bank will find other ways to contact you.
And even if they need any “action” or your part like activating a new card, they won’t rush you, or ask you to do it on the spot over the phone. -

I see. Well, I agree with zac's mum that no official bank will communicate through Whatsapp. They will use SMS but in general they should call you directly if they want you to do something. Never respond to any SMS requests.

It's not foolproof. I once had the bank contact me, and then they ask to verify my identity by asking some of the usual questions about myself and my banking relationship. I refused to answer because I ask her, \"How do I know you are actually the bank calling me?'.
