Any parents’ kids take Literature as contrasting subject for this year JC1? How does the study of Drama & Prose taught throughout the JC years b4 they have their As?
For example, in the syllabus it stated that students will study one of the prose texts from the 4 books: Frankenstein, The Great Gatsby, Pride & Prejudice, An Artist of the Floating World – Does the students need to study the 4 books or only 1 book in JC?
If require to study 4 books, how does the school sequence which book to teach first for the first year in JC; as well as 2nd year in JC by preparation for A level? -

For H2 Lit, HP students do Paper 1 and Paper 3. Other Lit students do Paper 1 and Paper 2. Each paper is taught by a different Lit teacher. The papers will be taught concurrently. The students will study all texts selected by the school. I recall my son studied 5 texts - Age of Iron, Ariel, Measure for Measure, Wordworth’s Prelude and Pride and Prejudice. Hope this helps. Best if your son / daughter can ask seniors.

Ah, I see! So at least not all the 4 texts for novel, it is a mixture of 5 texts including novels, drama & poem. For other H2 Lit students (who are not in HP) will do only Paper and Paper 2? I chanced upon past years prelim paper for H2 Lit, some were P1 &P2, another was P1 & P3. I read the H2 Lit latest syllabus- P1 is compulsory; whereas students are to choose either P2 or P3. So is it different year will be decided by the school to take either P1 & P2 or P1&P3? My dd have no seniors to approach for the Lit advice as most of them took Econ, and only 1 senior just graduated from HP this year. -

Hi, anybody knows how’s the timetable like if take 4H2 - PCM with H2 Lit as contrasting subject? What is the starting time & dismissal time for this subj combi? How will dd allocated to the class with this subj combi - as in whole class taking the same subj; or will put together with the majority student who take Econs, & the Lit student will have to leave the classroom to go for Lit class or wait for few hrs for the Lit class?

My son also chose a less common contrasting subject, and I am curious too, to see where he'd be placed.

One girl who took Chem Econs Math History told me she was put in an S6 class previously, i.e. a PCME class.
It's rare for HCI kids to choose Lit! But kudos to your child! -

Hi doodbug, mind if I ask what contrasting subj your son choose? So funny that the girl was put in PCME class when she didn't opt for Phys? Does it mean that she has to leave the classroom when others having Phys' lesson? And is there a time interval wasted & extend her time in school just to wait for her actual lesson to start at later time?

Yes, most dd's classmates opt for Econs as contrasting subject, & dd was quite tempted to follow them. I showed dd the sample exam paper for both Lit & Econs, dd said she read the econ's first paragraph & give up reading further. Too wordy for her. Lol! But having said this, she's attending the IP activities for both subjects, & will make her final decision from there. Just wanted to find out what's the timetable for her in the event she opt for Lit instead of Econs. Hopefully it doesn't end at 5 or 6 pm 😬 -
Have NYGH students submitted their choices? My DS’ 1st choice, the last I heard, was Phy, Econs, Maths, History.
My friend didn’t complain about timetable (she lived across the road from school, literally) but I do think most JC kids end late due to CCAs and other commitments so I don’t think they complain much about timetabling. Those who have the absolute shortest school hours are those who do not take any Science subjects as there are no lab sessions.
