2022 P1 Registration Exercise for 2023 In-take
-
Hi, need some guidance here.
I am currently doing PV at Anderson Primary School (within 1 to 2km) but am seriously considering trying for Maris Stella or SJI Junior because of the affiliation & safety net.
We are Catholics so we can register for both schools under Phase 2b but we live beyond 2km for both schools and that’s a bit risky.
Would appreciate any advice! -

Not sure what you are trying to do. You should PV only in the school you really want to get in. In your case, the only thing I can suggest is to monitor Maris Stella and SJI Junior in Phase 2B and to go in if you have a chance.

Anderson Phase 2B
2021 22 applicants for 37 places
2020 21 applicants for 30 places
2019 26 applicants for 47 places
2018 23 applicants for 24 places
2017 20 applicants for 32 places
So the only time Anderson is close to balloting in Phase 2B was in 2018, which was for Dragon kids. So I think it is a sure thing for you.
Maris Stella Phase 2B
2021 73 applicants for 60 places, ballot >2km
2020 67 applicants for 50 places, ballot >2km
2019 59 applicants for 56 places, cut off for SG citizens only
2018 53 applicants for 42 places, ballot >2km
2017 63 applicants for 60 places, cut off for SG citizens only
From the looks of it, Maris Stella doesn't look too bad as balloting mostly occurs for those staying >2km away.
SJI Junior Phase 2B
2021 98 applicants for 59 places, ballot >2km
2020 82 applicants for 58 places, ballot >2km
2019 83 applicants for 60 places, ballot >2km
2018 81 applicants for 52 places, ballot >2km
2017 82 applicants for 59 places, ballot >2km
As you can see SJI is pretty much the most competitive one here, although it remained opened for balloting throughout the last 5 years. Not sure if I would take my chances with the school. -
Thanks for the information @ChiefKiasu. Very useful.
Looks like both Maris & SJI are both out of the question unless I want to take a chance going to the ballot box.

You might want to watch out for Maris Stella, though, in case it has another all SG citizens situation for Phase 2B. Then, no need to ballot

hmmm.
I am just wondering the logistics of doing this - is it possible to at the last minute opt for APS under the same 2B phase if I know that Maris will be over-subscribed with most of them SG citizens?
And how do we know prior to the closing of the phase if they are SG citizens?
Thank you. -

Before the pandemic, the schools would update a whiteboard outside the office. But now, I'm not sure. You may have to call up the school regularly during Phase 2B. In any case, MOE doesn't update the final results for Phase 2A, 2B, etc until a week or 2 later, so it gets rather frustrating. Sigh.

More than 2km at Phase 2B is risky for both MS and SJIJ, definitely balloting, and with possibly not many seats left for more than 2 km folks. Also bear in mind, under the new system, there will be less space for 2B (20+1/3 left over) vs (20+1/2 left over) previously. All the best.

Hi fellow parents,
I’m an alumni member of Rosyth, and was obviously certain I wanted my son to be enrolled in Rosyth as well… Which of cos not until the recent curveball. Now I’m half-hearted, partly because I’m just right outside 2km.
I will like to understand exactly how MOE conduct phase 2A, and how crucial is it for us to be staying within 1km AND be an alumni to get in? I’m prepared to rent a house for the next 6 yrs within 1km of Rosyth, but honestly if I don’t have to make extra logistical changes, I would prefer not too. After all, my current place has straight bus to the school as well.
For option 2, I have St Gabs (right beside where we stay now) and Yangzheng both within 1km, and Maris within 2km as my alternative choice.
I am of cos more inclined to Rosyth, and if staying at my current place works under my phase 2A, it will be most perfect!
Just wondering if there might be anything that I missed that can possibly allow me to still hit this curveball for a homerun?
Thx everyone in advance, and happy cny!
