Hi have this maid for 4years+ and she didn’t have health problems. Recently, she said she can’t see things afar and wish to check up. She is nearing 40 years old. Probably she needs to wear spectacles liao (i think). Can I just bring her to a public hospital eye clinic or must get referral from Polyclinic ?

Think it’s better u either bring her to a recognized optician or to a GP. SG hospitals treat FDW as a foreigner under the costlier foreigner charges for treatment, unless u had purchased non-typical FDW insurance that covers ophthalmological treatments & others. A very dear Filipino FDW was past 50 & her eyer kept picking on her mistakes fr her failing eyesight & I brought her to my optician, o’wise she can’t afford to pay for her prescriptions & may loose her eyer’s confidence.

What we received as low cost treatment at SG PolyClinics & cheaper hospital treatment with referral fr PolyClinics does not apply to any foreigner incl FDW.

Let her try the spectacles at daiso? My friend brought her maid there and it solved the problem.

I believe there’s none, unless u’ve discovered an insurer willing to take yr high stakes for covering a treasured FDW. So, you probably traced yr path to get that prescription for yr FDW that fits yr pocket?

                Hi

Been so long inactive here. Btw, we have a filipino helper that been working with us since my younger boy born, about 12 year here, as im no longer working and all the boys are grown up, we would like to stop her service. She is about 45 yo and wish to continue work in Singapore. As most of my circle friends more or less with the same age of children, not many want to employ helper.
She is honest, able to take care toddlers well, house chores, simple cooking.
Rarely give us health problem, etc. I would like to help her to give her chance to pass to a good family.
Please DM me if you are interested to know more. Thank you

My friend hv a helper caring for her dementia mother. Apparently, in recent days, she found her mother getting a lot of bruises & knocks and her mother’s lips was bleeding on 1st day of CNY. Yday, she found $50 she put into her mother’s wallet gone. According to my frd, the helper became emotional recently but denied any knowledge why the elderly had bruises or bleed. In fact, last month her mother cld not even walk her usual few steps & became dead-weight the moment she stood up, so she sent her to the doc who admitted her for a few weeks for treatment of a fine crack at her knee.

My frd was in a bind, worried if she send helper home she do not hv an immediate replacement as she can’t handle her mother alone. She’s also worried abt reporting the helper as she had only witnessed one incident where the helper scolded her mother & walked away fr the park leaving the elderly crying. If she send her helper home, she’s also worried helper might claim in reverse that she was ‘sacked’ w/o cause or wrongly accused.

S’times I think during this pandemic, helpers can leave eyers at their mercy esp when they know eyers are in desperate need of their services.

Quickly look for a replacement and change a new helper. With all the suspicion and fear, better act fast for the sake of your sanity.

This was the agency that was recommended to us by the hospital when MIL was suddenly hospitalized with suspected stroke/dementia episode. They are already pre-trained in nursing/medical care.

I agree. I told her not to confront her as yet but keep close monitoring so she doesn’t do further harm & not to alert her till she’s ready to send her straight to airport.

Not easy coz of higher costs & agency charges. She doesn’t want Filipinas & trying for Christian helper fr Indo or Mynmar.
