SINGAPORE: Singapore reported 13,208 new COVID-19 cases as of noon on Friday (Feb 4) (this figure is about 9000 more than the previous day :yikes: ) , comprising 13,046 local and 162 imported infections.
There were six fatalities, according to the latest infection statistics on the Ministry of Health (MOH) website. This takes the death toll from coronavirus complications to 866.

Probably some decided not to see a doctor during the CNY holiday, so there's pent-up demand after. That has always happened, every public holiday, since workers need to take MC for workdays. But this time made worse by Omicron. And also because of Omicron, as people would have visited or been visited more over the past couple of days, there would be more infections. As long as most cases are mild, there's no real problem in terms of illness; the problems are more about work disruptions and long queues.

I read that employee no need take MC to support absence fm work. How many days of paid leave the employer needs to provide per infection? With the current situation, may be very disruptive to work? -
I’m not shocked at all. I was expecting it to be higher. Notice how they have "quietly" stopped the daily updates. I guess we should all get used to it.

Ya, MOH stipulates eyees need not hv to get MC as this wld burden the GPs with admin processes. Eyers are encouraged to let covid affected staff rest at home or WFH so they do not spread the viruses. Many eyers ard still unaware & insists on MC. So, that’s also a danger point tt might hv contributed to the increasing numbers. And yes, festive holidays like CNY always causes spike. The hospitals will be burdened with return patients too. It’s tough for the medical frontliners. Many alr on standby & told to return to respond to increase medical needs. Wonder how is our frd, laughingcat. -

Frankly, I see people less vigilant on the safety measure rules due to the new messaging of vaccinated will only experience mild or no symptoms. We should act normally but not become complacent.
Though it is calming to know that 13k+ infected and 998 needed hospitalisation only, we do not know everything about this virus yet so it's still better to stay safe. Also, recently there was another report regarding long covid, pointing to the fact that whether asymptomatic or mild, one could still suffer from long covid.

For those ART result is positive but didn't go to see doctor, they have to isolated 72 hours at home and my company as a Government linked sector is considered this 72 hours as hospitalized paid leave but I have to report back to work after this 72 hours once my ART result is negative. -

Not absolutely shocked because I observed that people had indeed become more relaxed in their ways so I was expecting the numbers to increase dramatically...but still it was like breaking loose... Surprised that people are so confident that we have already effectively conquered this virus when there is still a shroud of mystery surrounding this micro-organism which has a mind of its own.
As for the daily updates on numbers, I still see news reports daily on the numbers....did it ever stop quietly? :?
It's good to know that we, as a nation, can(have the ability to) move into an endemic state due to our high vaccination rate but we should make every effort to keep ourselves clear of that little known microorganism if we can help it.
There is no need to fear, just do the right things. -

Am not really fixated on the daily nos/deaths after my VTL escapade. I am kinda rejuvenated and mentally liberated after getting out of SG last year to deep-breathe some cold fresh O2 in the snowcapped mountains and drink my cuppa by the scenic lakes and coastlines.
The vast geographical spaces and 4 seasons in other continents truly make one feel better, despite some of their restrictions are rather similar to SG's.
No wonder many expats have chosen to quit Singapore.

True. Talked with American PR returning for holidays. She was so surprised that Sg has to use
track & trace, abide by max 5 pax limit, and employee vaccine mandate. US don't have any of these right now. Even Biden's vaccine mandate was struck down by the courts.
And they can travel freely to other states without any checking. And to Mexico without any VTL.
That's why many foreign PMETs are leaving Singapore.
Sg has become like a dystopian state as compared with even the most stringent state in US. And Sg'eans think that this is normal. Docile Sg'eans think that this is the only way to live after 2 years of fear indoctrination. But foreigners don't buy this crap. They respond with their feet.
The upside is that there are lots more PMET job opportunities for Sg'eans.
