I don’t think anyone (external) has all of the information needed to assess how affiliation has impacted the COP. Based on what I can find about cohort sizes, it seems unlikely that NYJC is only or mainly kids from the affiliated schools. I.e. the science COP of 5 is not just affiliated 9 - 4 kids. It would include many other non-affiliated 9 - 4 kids or it could be non-affiliated 8 - 3 kids / 7 - 2 kids (based on the tiebreakers, the second group here will have priority or the affiliated 9 - 4 kids).
That being said, my impression was that it is not "simple" to get 4 points deduction from HMT/CCA. For the lower (better) scorers, there will be some bias towards HMT and 2 points deduction there. CCHY’s Higher MT takeup rate is probably higher than the national average (~1/3 of students +/-) but may be noticeably lower than CCHM’s rate? However, I did not think it was easy for ALL students to get 2 points CCA deduction, so there is probably some portion (not all) of the affiliated students that have picked up an extra point or two vs non-affiliated kids (but again, the non-affiliated kids with a lower gross will have the tiebreaker advantage).
Regardless, like I said elsewhere what any individual student does (academics and non-academics) is much more important than School A or School B. The rise (in terms of COP) is impressive and if more and more top scoring kids want to go there that is great and I am sure they will do well (and could have done well elsewhere too). -
The drop in Sc COP to 5 this year for NYJC could be due to influx of 4 netters who failed to get into RI and HCI. My DS is one or them. She told me there is a school mate with gross 6 and net 4 L1R5 who fails to get into RI. So 6 gross net 4 could be the level of balloting at RI this year. The rejected ones are likely to flow into NYJC (most of her friends and her). This could be one possibility, if considering gross 6 to be the cutoff for balloting at RI.

Not from my DS. But since RI’s COP this year is still 4, likely balloting is at gross 6, net 4.

COP RI is 4 accord to MOE.
Likewise, Net 5 scorers failed to get Nyjc are likely to flow into Ejc then snowball into others. -

The IPs from their feeder schools are already the cream of every cohort through PSLE, each had 400 students, so both RI/HCI already had ~800 IPs joining them, so left only 300 vacancies. And the boy/gal ratio is perfectly matched at 1:1.
Only 300+ left for JAEs.
No wonder their COP always 3-5 point.
No wonder they top 1-2 top JC as mostly IPs -

or stick back to your affliated Nanyang JC ? -
Since net 4 point need ballot for RI, highest direct admission is net 3 point. Even with a perfect gross score of 6, will need 3 bonus point (6-3=3) to qualify for direct admission. RI has no 2 affiliation bonus point deduction for JAE.
Say 2 bonus points are from CCA, will still require some bonus point from either of these:
- HMT
- language special programmes
- JC language elective programmes
It seem to suggest to have a guarantee direct admission to RI, students need to join language programme
