Kuta is near to the airport with lots of touristy places and nearer to the beach.

Ubud is about 4 hours from the airport but near to the arts and crafts and most temples and the mountains.

Not sure about Seminyak, but Legian is another beach area between Kuta and Ubud. Suppose to have more quiet beach but more ex then Kuta.

If it is your first time going to Bali, Kuta should be okay. There are many freelance guides over there who can bring you around the island. Be sure to negotiate with them on the price first and check that the price include the cost of gas. We brought DS to turtle island… it was suppose to cost USD$50 per pax but we manage to bargain it down to USD$50 for 2 adults and one kid. It include a boat ride to the island and a tour of a turtle farm with a mini zoo where we can go up close with the turtles, bats, falcons and eagles. Also manage a trip up to Ubud on the second day.

Thanks for that ! But just to clarify…Kuta is where the bombings have always been right ?

Is the shopping there different from the ones in Malaysia…when I went to KL, its mostly same thing like Singapore.

If I choose Legian, is there anything to do there ?

ya Kuta was one of the sites that was bomb…they were building a monument there when we were there.

I think Legian is mostly nice beaches. It does not really matter if you get a guide though, they can still bring you around the rest of the island if you want to.

We did not do much shopping there… the shopping is not really like Singapore. It is more like shops along the road for most of the Kuta and ubud shops we saw. We saw a few shopping centres but did not go in though. The guide may bring you to places that sell soveniers and crafts if you want. We went to a batik factory, silver smith and art gallery. If you are looking for decoration for the house, you can find some nice paintings and handicraft there.

              last week travelled to Bali

one of the most memorable / unique about Bali is the black fine glittering sands in the beach…
              really regretted that i didn’t collect it…

Hi anyone has any idea where to stay when visiting Bali? Which is good for family? Any good recommendation? I have been to Bali twice, but most of the time were in Kuta, as those days I was still single… hehe

But many feedback Kuta is v.noisy & crowded, but I like that place. Are other places more suitable for family?

People who are going to Bali with family can try to google for villa stays.

There are different types (1 room, 2,3, or more rooms type). Not expensive when you amortise against so many groups. You get the whole villa (typically come with a private pool) to yourself. There is maid service to clean up. Can order bbq dinner (they even pengkan for you if you want).

We stayed at ubud when we were there few years back. It’s quiet, has nice scenaries and ‘countryside’ feel, my whole family liked it. However, active kids may find the place a bit boring as they usually prefer the beach. My kids are fine since they are not the outdoor type. So it really depends on individual.

You can see the photos on tripadvisor to see if you like it.

my friend has been to Lovina Beach ( the most northern part) to watch wild dolphin. but she told me she had to wake up very early ard 4am(depending on the location of the hotel) to reach the beach before tides receded. she hired a boat to chase the dolphins and also managed to see the sunrise…

next time i will choose a northern villa / hotel to experience the fun of dolphin chasing…
