It's fine as long as the schools still test (FA, CA, WA or whatever) sufficiently to get the kids prepared for PSLE. But students and parents will need to pay more attention to these mini exams and take the results seriously.

The thing I liked about JC and above education is that there is only 1 final to study for. But that would mean putting all your eggs in a basket. Even in the university, courses usually have at least 4 weighted assignments, worth about 20% of your grade. These assignments are meant to encourage consistency in learning. In the university I worked for, there are even mock exams for students to get tuned to the requirements of the course.
I don't know if younger kids can adopt the \"no midterm exam\" notion. I'm sure most would enjoy it, until they have to sit for the final, all 'rusty'. Hopefully not.
Maybe this new rule is only temporary as the country recovers from covid? -
FWIW, my older kid’s (2020 PSLE) school only conducted SA1 (40%) and SA2 (60%) in all of P3-P6 (P6 SA1 cancelled due to COVID). No CAs in Term 1 and Term 3. While the full exam takes a lot of time to administer, the good thing is for the languages the kids got full feedback on oral, LC, and both written papers. Perhaps the extra time around SA1 was worth it when you consider that the school did free up a week in both Terms 1 & 3 with no CAs.
In contrast, my younger kid (2022 PSLE) had WA1-WA2-WA3-SA2 (15%-15%-15%-55%) from P3 to P5. P6 will just be SA1 and Prelim (again no CA or WA in Term 1).
At the end of the day, I’m not really sure it makes a big difference either way (substitute mid-year for mini-exams). I do see that CA1-SA1-CA2-SA2 may be a bit of overkill? But between the other two options above I guess each has its pros / cons.
As it pertains specifically to primary school and PSLE, I do feel only having P5 SA2 and then Prelim may delay the "wake-up" call for some. Given the way the S1 posting system works, this just means more cramming / stress at the end for some. I think IP Sec 1 - Sec 4 can definitely do away with mid-year exams. -

#1. For RI and ACS(I), HCL grade does not matter. Could be Distinction or no HCL; the total AL Score is what determines priority (then citizenship, choice, ballot).
#2. Last year's (2021 PSLE) COPs were RI = AL6, HCI = AL7(M), ACS(I) = AL7, RVHS = AL9(M). Hence, the sure in scores required are RI = AL5, HCI = AL7(D) (AL6 something to be safe), ACS(I) = AL6, RVHS= AL9(D) (AL8 something to be safe).
Obviously, can update later this year and you will get to see another outcome next year.

Yea, we will get to see 2 more PSLE outcome next month and next year. Let's see if the COP changes, hopefully remain the same.
It's quite fun to go through this journey with the child. -
