I guess maybe some parents ‘could see’ that you can do better than what you are doing and try to push you to realise your max capability…
I m at the opposite end…will I regret next time?seriously not sure… -

Again, as parents, it's that middle path we have to find - we want to spur our kids to do their best by pointing out what they should be doing or aiming for, which may include applying some pressure or discipline. On the other hand, we should encourage them when we see that they are trying, or when they experience any kind of \"success\". For some kids, just passing in a particularly weak subject may be \"success\", while for another kid, it might not be academic at all, but improving in a hobby or sport, or reaching a personal goal etc.

There was once my father said to me (because I was spending A LOT of time on JC Maths which I was failing at one point) - \"if I studied as hard as you, I would have been a President's Scholar\". I guess it was acknowledging my hard work, but at the time, I felt it was rather a back-handed compliment! -

When I father said I was a shame to the whole family, I really didn't know what he wanted me to do :? Did he want me to realise my max capability? Maybe....

me too, my expectations not high too ... so long can get into a sch with rich cultures , good system ( in my opinion, disciplined , mannerism etc usu those estab and mission sch) > I alway think so long the kid learns to be diligent, put in efforts , try his/her best , obedient, well mannered - I am happy, pleased.
I believe some are really fast learners, parents no need to worry much..like slmkhoo's one dd and now zealmummy's too.
As parent, I don't have that high expectation, I think la..just hope my kids could progress smoothly, that's good enough for me. Sometimes I do nag, how I don't understand why they cannot be like more auto etc..but my dh will always tell me..remember, we were like that also when we were young..and I was like no leh..then my dh will say, you must have forgotten la.
my ds is also not auto, sometimes dd also not auto . Thru my consistent reminders ( naggings) i think ds did pretty satisfactory (Thank God!) ; i am contented with what he get now and new learning in coming years, he is experiencing his dream now, we told him it is a good Life experience, he should learn and enjoy it. even out of the course is ok, he can do other related tasks in the related field too.
zac mum, diff sch diff standard, ur ds sch standard is higher than avg sch, thus the competition.
I think it is still encouraging to see that he is hardworking and wants to do well;
in my opnion resilent and willing to learn are good attitudes to bring forward in life. Sons need alot of reminders fr mum. i m still doing it on/off

With this dd, I could only encourage and luckily to us she will tell us what she thinks..and I recently realised that my this child has the capability of just put everything down, can switch off type. I think she inherited my 'stubbornness' in a way (deep inside her though she still listen to us) and plus that

I was secretly happy when the MYEs were scrapped though actually by next year my girls would not be affected. I really find SG schools too much testing and drilling at the pri sch level so much so that on weekends its always completing the mountains of maths hw or preparing for next tests graded or not. I think too much time has been honed to make kids exam smart but for what use (just for a single placement exam at P6)? U ask them general knowledge they know nothing. You ask them about SG history/heritage they know nothing too. I rather time is spent honing investigative or research skills or simply more playtime to get to know SG better to start the least. I quite like the e2k science prgm my girls were in last time. At least its something experimental and interesting findings.

You ask them who's the latest KPOP star or what's the latest KDrama, they will know everything leh.

While we'd all like fewer exams, less stress, more non-academic development, etc, I think you need to consider exactly how the S1 posting system and JAE work. When exam results determine what options you have, I question how many people currently in the process will say \"test less\" or \"I don't care what the testing policy is.\"
Not saying things can't change for the better. Just saying sometimes I think there's a bit of a disconnect between what is the input-output of the system and theoretically what we all think is better...
Another way to look at it is how did all of the CAs, SAs, WAs, and loads of homework/practice exams come about? One of the first questions each late-November seems to be “what % of the cohort scored above 250/AL8?” Sometimes the problem is looking right back at you in the mirror… -
All that being said, as mentioned my younger kid (P6 this year) has never had a mid-year exam. Always WA1-WA3 + SA2. At the end of the day, I can’t say it has made a difference, so maybe it doesn’t matter.
And I found out my secondary kid wasn’t planning to have any mid-year exam either (Sec 2 so technically eligible for it). Still Class Test (15%), Common Test (15%), and EOY Exam (70%) (with some subjects having other projects, which will generally reduce the EOY Exam weight).
