Anyone has any insights into A level Computer Science as a subject? Is it a big disadvantage if one doesn’t have any coding background (or O level computing)?

How did the cohort did as a whole for computing science in Singapore in the past? (I understand only very few JC offer computer science as a subject and only able to find out that 7/10 in HCI scored a distinction). Is it an ‘easy’ to score subject or a difficult one? Does one need to be very strong in math to do well in computer science?

I took A level computer science when it was being introduced for the 2nd year, long ago. It was my calling. There was an IQ test we have to sit for and there was this project which we had to hand in as part of the grade. I finished the project by the first year and thus had lots of time to study for my other subjects, but many of my classmates finished it close to A-levels. Not sure what the course entails now... maybe someone could find out and explain :please:

Not sure abt other JC, but NJC HOD told us during open house 2 years back that there will be a selection test for interested students to assess aptitude.

Oh... they still have that IQ test after all these years? I'm surprised.

Not sure about the nature of the selection test as we did not pursue further.

Not sure it's an IQ test now - more a psychological assessment. My daughter didn't take it, but heard from friends.

                      Any pupils here,

from the recent past 5 year batches
                      (2018 to today 2022, either JC1 or JC2 student(s) )

from Double Science stream last time (Sec 4),

didn’t do well in your O-level (Physics) previously, but also never sit for any O-level (Biology) at all,
                      but ended up
in Junior College switched over to do A-level (Biology) instead, because dis-continued with A-level (Physics) ?

What are some of your struggles / challenges encountered in JC so far, in your A-level (Bio) subject ?
                      And
how are you coping with A-level (Bio) today ?

Most jc will require a min Olevels grade in the subject or combined science. Need to check w individual jc.
