I'm too slow. The GrandMaster :nunchuk: defeated the BlackBelt  with ease...

Thank you very much zac’s mum and SG_KP1.

At least I can tell my friend to ease her worries a bit now as I think the child’s results would still be able to end up with NT in the worst case scenario. Currently hovers between 22 to 24 now it seems. Child has been diagnosed with the AD part in ADHD but no HD and things are still going downhill hence my fren is very worried….

I have a friend in similar situation too. Do ask her to try to request for “access arrangements” during the exam, specifically for an invigilator to tap the table/child’s shoulder during the exam if they notice child drifting off. Is it called a “prompter”?

Just my suggestion. I do not know if it can be done…my friend said her current arrangement is for extra time, which does not help actually, if the attention is not brought back promptly.

Sharing SA1 CL oral topic from a student who was tested last week, please feel free to chip in. 😉

              Theme: Responsibility 责任感

Content: Boy searching for his stuff in messy room; came back home and didn't place his shoes properly; Mum taught him how to tidy his room; at the end of the video Boy had the initiative to be neat & tidy

              Questions included:
              - Do you ever have the experienced of losing (can't find) your stuff? What did you do?
              - If your family member have problem tidying his/her stuffs, how would you help?
Another topic I got to know of is regarding family bond/cohesiveness.

              Theme: Family bond 家庭凝聚力

Content: A family were at fast food restaurant. They ordered food via the self ordering kiosk (自动点餐机) before collecting their orders at the counter (柜台) and enjoying their food.

              Questions included:
              - Do you think think they are enjoying themselves? How do you know?
              - Do you frequent fast food restaurant? Why? (If not, where do you go for meals?)
              - What are some appropriate places that families can go to?

Kinda \"interesting\" that they popped in the question regarding fast food restaurant, which indirectly includes the theme of Healthy Eating 健康饮食 into the examination.

The discussion is over at the DSA 2022 thread (link below), since upcoming April/May open houses are catering to DSA applicants. For S1 posting applicants (after PSLE results are out), there will be another separate round of open houses in November.

Another SA1 CL oral topic to share 😉 :

                    Theme: Healthy lifestyle 健康生活

Content: Girl set alarm clock (调好闹钟), woke up to exercise with parents. After they came back, they prepared breakfast together - made sandwiches (三文治), ate cereal (谷物, 麦片 is acceptable too) with almond (杏仁)

                    Questions included:
                    - Besides what's shown in the video, how do you maintain a healthy lifestyle
                    - How will you encourage your family members to live a healthy lifestyle?
                    - Do you think that delaying school starting time will help to solve the issue about lack of sleep? Why? (https://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=101791#p2056337 instead. 😓 Pleasantly surprised when I heard the student's reasonings - of cos, articulation wise could have been better. I guess the fact that it's a topic related to their own live makes it easier for them to air their views. 😄 )

So far, topics are repetitive/expected, nothing surprising. Key to scoring well will be thinking skills (in depth analysis, problem solving) + articulation (nouns, verbs).

2 more SA1 CL oral topics to share:

                      Theme: Saving Water 节省用水

Content: Girl brushing teeth (used a cup to hold water), used remaining water from the cup to was tooth brush, noticed tap leaking (漏水) after she was done and about to go, informed her Dad about it and he came to repair the tap.

Boy came home, wanted to wash his bicycle using water hose (水管), Mum saw and suggested that he use the water left from washing of clothes instead.

Questions included: What are some ways in which you save water? How can schools encourage students to to save water?

                      =========

                      Theme: Independence 独立

Content: Boy was cooking fried rice himself and learning how to ride bicycle

Questions included: Narrate what you see from the video. What are some independent acts you carry out? What troubles did you face during the process? How can schools nurture students’ independence.

                        Hi

Just sharing a piece of advice that I gave to my friend. This is my friend’s experience with her child.

Child was extremely weak academically, failed P5 EOY for 3 out of 4 subjects. I advised my friend to send her child for diagnosis. Firstly, go to polyclinic to see a doctor and tell doctor what you suspect. Eg: Dyslexia, ADD/ADHD, autism etc…. Ask polyclinic doctor for a referral letter to another medical institution so that you will pay subsidised medical fee and not pay the full amount as private patient who walk in without referral.

The child was eventually diagnosed with dyslexia with a little ADD Attention Deficit Disorder (dreamy kind) and the mum quit her job to focus on her child from P5 to P6. She engaged private tutors , send her child for therapies and medical consultation, work with school teachers and tutors. Eventually, the child managed to enter Normal Academic stream in Very good school instead of Normal Technical stream. There is no way the child can enter Express stream to the Very Good school. It all paid off in the end.

To add on, the school was updated about the child’s condition by parent and the option for access arrangement was given to the child as he was officially diagnosed by doctor and given medication for ADD- Attention Deficit Disorder to focus better.

Friend was initially worried about the remarks Access arrangements given to child during PSLE which will be on the PSLE cert. No employer will see PSLE cert to see if your child took PSLE under access arrangement. She pondered over a long time before deciding on Access arrangement to help her child get extra time for PSLE.

Seeking help for early intervention is very important if parents want to help the child.
