Just to share, my child have an AL 8 score with AL1 in Math and AL2 in Science.

To add on, the SST principal shared during the virtual meeting that AL score or T score may not be a good indicator for success rate of SST DSA. Interested student should have a strong interest in project work/discussion, as majority of the school work may involves project work. If your child is not interested in group discussion/project work, maybe SST may not be a good choice. However, if your child have these interests, then by all mean, go for it. You will never know, unless you try.

We have a good discussion with my son if he's interested in SST DSA, explained to him about about SST's applied learning and the kind of school education that SST offered. He indicated his interest, hence we suggested that he should try for SST DSA. If he's successful, good, if not, take it as a learning experience.

if a P6 pupil scored AL 17, not AL 7, in both his
(P5 SA2 year-end and
P6 SA1 mid-year ) school results

demo an extremely, strong interest in self exploring Physics projects at home, he will still have chance to be selected, via DSA path ?

Minimum AL score under Supplementary intake (Nov) 2021 onwards, should be

the equivalent to
past years' minimum Tscore 240, under the old Tscore system.

Moreover, nowadays,
a lot of end of Sec 2 students are targeting Double Sciences combination. No more heading for Triple Sciences, unlike
in the past old days.

So,

1) if your P6 son is very much a hands-on oriented person

And

2) he is looking forward to a Sec 3 Double Sciences subject combination + one Applied Sciences subject,

And


3) don't mind preparing for
/ taking GCE \"O\" level National exam,

And

4) don't mind a co-ed Secondary school, because your son's current primary school is an All-boys school,


he is welcome to apply for SST DSA process. In fact, I personally feel that SST is very suitable for your son, even more suitable than his afflated All-boys Secondary missionary school.

My friend’s son is an example of someone who’s become very successful after accepting SST. Of course his PSLE score of 260 allows him to apply to any school of his choice, but I think he may not have done so well if placed in the R/H schools.

One reason for his success is his deep interest/skillset in coding. His personality, persona and other character attributes also allows him to blend in really well into the sch envnmt. Because of his coding skills he had travelled to Japan (pre covid) to represent SST in coding competitions etc…
The irony now is he actually is interested to join hci in Year 5 and 6 via DSA…

My son has a JAE/DSA classmate from SST and says he is extremely focussed and knows right from the outset what he wishes to do in university - which is a pure science subject. He is taking 3H2s at the outset (early JC1) and 1H1, to concentrate his efforts on the Science subject he is keen on, and hopes to pursue a deep H3 is the chosen Sicnece. I think the SST/more specialised environment allows students to pursue depth in a specialised area early on, and to build on the interest and aptitude. So it does work out for kids who have very clear/defined interests. And as a specialised school, they also have the autonomy not to pursue the full MOE prescribed suite of secondary school subjects, but instead, free up time/opportunities to pursue specialised interests.

This SST boy is taking applied computing at o level and will be keen to take H2 computing at HCI…HCI is well known in STEM so maybe he gravitated towards HCI in Y5/6 rather than NJC as I initially thought that was where he would be heading…

With that score, it’s a dilemma between Express at either of his affiliated sec, or SST.

Was hoping to have on-site open house to experience the environment and culture in-person. But no such chance it seems.

Still wondering whether should specialize in Science so early…he has other varied interests and seems to be inclined towards humanities as well…maybe a generalist path is better for him at this young age.
