      Yeah, I shared 2020 and 2021's GCE O-Level CL Oral Topics https://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=102404&start=20#p2065370. šŸ˜‰

It's combined effort —— sharing from different tutors/teachers/candidates who sat for the exam —— much more difficult to \"compile\" cos' unlike PSLE's 2 days of oral exam, O-Level stretches to 5/7 days. šŸ˜“
Yes this is the one, thanks! Very helpful! Any chance to have HCL sec oral classes?

        Can consider getting this book?

        https://www.openschoolbag.com.sg/product/secondary/o-level-chinese-oral-tutor-revised

(I bought the PSLE version and it comes with a QR code to scan to access the videos plus model answers).

Will the hcl topics be similar? I only want to know the themes so that I could ask my girls to crack their heads and plan for these topics in June. When is HCL O level oral? Nowadays I don't really follow national exams schedules....

Yes, Imp75. Theme wise, they are the same. The only differences are
                  - in the video (HCL's version has narration throughout + includes some \"interview\" scenes, unlike CL version which only has narration at start of the video) and
                  - some of the questions asked

                      Hi Chen Lao Shi,

I remembered you posted some links to watch for oral sec HCL. May I know how to help the child practice the HCL oral after watching? Is it the child must take notes and repeat what they see or hear? Also, is there a way or tip to take down the notes given that the child writing is not good or quick enough.

                      Thank you so much!

                        .....
HCL Sec 1 is really no joke and everything else is so much harder in Sec 1, especially the science subjects. Only Sec 1 Math maybe is easier than PSLE Math (because I cannot do model problem sums!! Lol). I have friends whose kids have A* in CL & Distinction in HCL in PSLE but can barely just pass HCL in Sec 1. I do not understand why MOE has to make our syllabus so hard like this. Does this way really make the kids smarter?
                        .....
Copied over from the CHS thread.

Not taking a stand on whether CL or HCL is better in Sec 1. However, while I won't say HCL in Secondary school is easy, I think the challenge for students is mainly with factors other than the syllabus.

From P6 to Sec 1 kids face the following challenges with HCL:
                        a) Number of classes per week goes from 6x (daily plus one extra session) to ~ 3x.
                        b) Number of other classes student needs to spend time on increases from 3 to ~5-7.
                        c) Parental supervision of student's activities often drops. I.e. Output (for anything) is a function of effort x ability. The ability is more or less the same but in primary school parents often cranked up the effort (tuition, forced revision, etc) whereas in secondary school many kids are left to forge their own path (itself not a bad thing).
                        d) Amount of homework completed and number of practice exams done for prep likely declines (especially the latter).

For most kids, the vast majority of their life will be in English. Even SAP School with ACC, Art and Music in Chinese, etc + strong home environment will still leave the child probably spending 75% of his/her time conversing or consuming information in English. If the student only picks up the books 3x per week (day of class and finish homework), the performance is likely to suffer.

For those that could get A* or AL1 in CL and Distinction in HCL in primary school, I don't think HCL will be that hard but it takes a conscious effort for some, and this can be a challenge as kids develop their own interests and manage their own time. Some kids will do whatever they need to do to get A1 (or A) in a subject, others will spend most of their time/energy on things they really like and get a \"reasonable\" grade in the \"other\" subjects...
