There are other ways of making notes. My daughter makes use of \"sticky notes\" on her laptop, and I'm sure there are other digital ways on tablet, phone or laptop.
We've tried with sticky notes! I love them myself. However our baby at home (he's 4) sticks them on his tongue and sticks his tongue out at us. And laughs and runs away. So we've had a blanket ban since I dont want to rush a choking baby to the hospital.

Do I need to accept that my girl is messy and last minute? Her school grades are fine. I myself am an organised early doer. She reminds me of my Uni friends in the dorm who would pile up their laundry on the floor.

What are you going to do if you don't accept your girl is messy and last minute? Advise her? Scold her? Impose Penalty on her? She is already in Sec 2.

Haha, you have a point! Maybe, stop doing her laundry?

I meant digital \"sticky notes\", not paper ones. Ask her to give them a try? There should be a way to do that - my daughter was from RGS was using a Mac.

You should be proud instead. Your Sec 2 girl knows how to prioritise work and manage grades. I would leave her alone if in your case. There is no one path to success.

Oh yes, my dd uses the sticky notes on her Mac too. The girls don’t have handbooks like in primary school, so in Year1 it was “adaptation”time and she missed a few assignments. I recall I had to rush to Typo to buy a daily calendar +organiser for her then. After she got used to having everything online, she didn’t need the organiser anymore. Perhaps, give your child some time to adapt first…

Oof thanks. I didnt think of that. I nagged her to do her WAs and she burst out, \"Chill mom, you're giving me anxiety!\" and closed her door, probably to send out a hundred texts about her boring mom. I think I need to leave her alone to manage school and not listen to my inner anxiety voice. :lovesite:

It depends on whether you really mind her habits and want her to learn to be different for the long haul, or whether you are OK with her habits as long as her grades are OK. And also whether she is able to change (e.g. a child with learning disabilities that makes her disorganised and a poor planner can't change all that much - I have one of those). If you want her to change, then the sooner you try to change her habits the better; if you don't really mind, then just let her be till her grades drop (they may or may not). If she is really resistant to advice, then you may have to let her grades plummet and she gets a shock, then step in to help her change. Personally, I am a \"managing\" mother - I try to inculcate good habits early on. Sometimes it doesn't work, or I find that the habit I'm trying to inculcate doesn't \"fit\" the child, then I give up. But at least I tried!

                      hi
any parents can share on home tuition for sec 1 math and science? my girl is not coping very well with all the homework and losing track of time..any parents can share tips of their y1 kiddos?
                      Hi,

I can understand how you feel cos my dd is also in sec 1.

Regarding the losing track of time or perhaps it’s overlooked assessments/assignments you mean? I think the best way is to teach her to keep track of all the PpA or AA or whatever not in a excel sheet or any document she prefer. Those items are given deadline and it’s easier to put into a tracking list.

Also, check the email every day. It’s almost like working adult, their teachers like to send work via email or reminder. So your girl may want to use note pad to list out her homework for that day and cancel when done. I think there’s a calendar on gmail which she can use and see all the deadline of assigned work.

As for coping with homework, I think it’s best to ask her to try asking teachers for help if possible. There’s consultation session I think, but the kids needs to book the time. I find that there’s quite a lot of stuffs that needs to be learn and understand, it’s not easy for them. Yes, tuition can be a way out but it really depends on how many subjects she really need or if she have time for it.

I think the challenge is always finding time to complete work and not having to stay up late to do it. So….. yea, I think the girls are already so busy on weekday, hopefully they get some good rest on weekends.

Hope my sharing helps, jia you! We are all in this together 😂

My girl literally started studying for her Science WA 1 day before, on a school night, at 7pm. I expected disaster but she came back and said it was hard but still ok as it touched on some concepts she recalls from Sec 1. Her 4 take home WAs she finished it all over 1.5 days during the last 2 days of the long weekend.

I wasnt this disorganised at her age and I'm totally flummoxed! But she really seems fine.
