Phase 2B for SCGS has been balloting in recent years, albeit for SC > 2km. Assuming that you get through the PV selection, which is by no means a guarantee, you will have to pray / hope that the balloting situation doesn't change.
Hi parents I need to conduct a poll here.
I am staying in Novena and I have a boy and girl.
Based on alumni, we can apply Pei Chun. The downside is there is no school bus.
If we apply SCGS for our girl, it is within 1-2km but we have to volunteer. And for our boy, we will have to volunteer to apply for SJI but it is within 1km. But if we don’t get in, I don’t know what is the backup plan..
Which option would you choose and why?
Also, SJIJ does not accept PV. Hence, your current plan for the boy won't work. You can only bang your hope on Phase 2C for the boy.
Therefore, the logical option is Pei Chun. As for school buses, you can always https://peichunpublic.moe.edu.sg/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/School-Bus-Reg-Form-20-August-2020.pdf (assuming that you haven't done so). -
If I were u, I will definitely apply directly for peichun, volunteering for the other two schs with consequences of not getting in and no back up plan is not exactly worth it.
Also, peichun is a decent sch in terms of academics . -
I agree with the above 2 opinions. The most straightforward way is to go for Pei Chun (confirmed seat) and settle transport (much easier to settle IMO). Consider the highly subsidized “schoolbus” #57 from opposite Novena Church, only 8 stops to Pei Chun.
SCGS only takes a tiny number of PVs, while SJIJ takes none. The only way to get into 2B for both is the GRL route, for which u may be too late (depending on the age of your eldest child).
Save your time and uncertainty & just go for the alma mater. -
Hi all, trying to scour the pages for information on the selection of primary schools in the north - Yishun.
I know most will ask me to try Chong Fu but the more I read about Chong Fu, I do have some reservations such as the amount of homework, and the school has 10 full classes of Primary 1 classes.
I want to keep my option open for other schools in the vicinity.
Anyone has experience or advice to share?? Will love to hear all -
Hi, I’m a SG citizen and living within 1-2km from Fairfield. Do you think it’s worth applying under phase 2C?
Background: My husband is an alumni of Maris Stella and we will be applying under phase 2A to secure a slot first. But due to the location (we are living at Queenstown), we prefer somewhere nearer hence considering Fairfield. But given the popularity of Fairfield, it is a very big risk for us to give up our slot in Maris Stella (under phase 2A) to apply under phase 2C.
Any thoughts? Thank you! -
No, far too risky.
Stick to Maris Stella ( Phase 2A ).
At end of P1 or P2, seek transfer into Fairfield.
Maris is a SAP school, easier to transfer from SAP to non-SAP (Fairfield). But the other way round, not so easy.
There is school bus service provided by Maris. Check if Secondary and primary school section school bus service provider in Maris is the same, or different.

According to the past balloting history, fairfield has a probability of balloting at <1km at phrase 2C. So chances are Low..

Might be better to stick to alma mata Maris Stella, or try Queenstown primary, if distance is a concern. -

Do you have any Phase 2CS schools in mind?

Because there’s where you will end up if you choose to apply FMPS in Phase 2C as FMPS will 100% ballot for SC < 1km in Phase 2C. My suggestion would be to consider other schools in Queenstown that’s closer to you (and there isn’t any reason to apply to Maris if you have no intention to keep that place). -
1. Increase in reserved places for Phase 2C
40 places will be reserved in Phase 2C in each primary school, up from 20 places today. Phase 2B will continue to have 20 reserved places. This means a total of 60 reserved places will be set aside in all schools at the start of the P1 Registration Exercise.
In addition to these reserved places, one-third of any remaining vacancies at the end of Phase 2A will be allocated to Phase 2B, and two-thirds to Phase 2C.

2022: 40 places will be reserved in phrase 2C in each primary school for the year 2022. After the increase of the phrase 2C places to 40, maybe it wouldn’t be 100% ballot for SC < 1km in Phase 2C. Oh well, let’s see how it goes this year.
