I assume you’re looking for EL compo ? If your kid needs help for plot formation and writing techniques , I find Writers & Work good . They teach techniques like mentioning the topic at least 3x in the compo (to ensure doesn’t steer away from topic) and also teach you some nice “flowery” sentences (nothing too bombastic that’s sounds too rehearsed). My dd benefitted a lot from it .

She also tried another one - Write Connection. This one is for already competent writers who need strengthening on plot development .

Hi, can anyone enlighten and share if it is necessary to train MO to do well in PSLE math? My child has not been trained in MO as he is not really interested nor has aptitude for math. SA1 was a challenge for him...alot of high order qn..I m panic, .school worksheets generally ok but high order is a problem .
... Is it due to no MO training? His friends with MO can do the papers! .... Is it in time to train? What to do to catch up on MO trg so short time to psle? ;(

Psle math is highly intense due to time pressure . Like my dd batch , there were many kids complaining about the 2021 psle math paper 2 being v difficult . I just took a look at it and honestly it wasn’t that conceptually difficult - just numerous steps required - unlike the 2018 killer which has more challenging questions .

I think the kids are feeling this way coz they feel the heat working under exam pressure .

So I would say building mental resilience n confidence in your child is very important . It’s ok to get him to repeatedly re-do the same questions that he made mistakes in . Quality is better than quantity . Each time he re-tries the question, the concept gets reinforced in him
. That builds up his confidence .

N when he makes mistakes in new questions , be encouraging . Say things like “oh it’s good that we discover this area that you need help in … let’s learn together” . Nothing is more damaging than a parent sitting beside him giving him worried looks or angry looks .

N be selective in the questions . If certain questions are beyond him at this moment , keep them in your back pocket .

Lastly if there’s some new concepts that you want to teach , pre-teach him a few days before hand . Let it sink into his head … n revise concept again …. Then let him attempt the question when you feel that he is ready to tackle it .

I can’t stress how important it is to build up their confidence in math . We are here to build the kids up ; not shock n scar them for life ….

There is this new english tuition centre at bishan called https://thelearningtrove.com. Fees are quite reasonable at $900 for 12 lessons. Founder is Sherman Tseng, an ex HOD for english at Ai Tong school, and he also used to teach at Academia in sin ming.

I have also heard of this centre in Katong called https://mclass.com.sg/ that specializes in English tuition. All the teachers are former MOE scholars with teaching experience in IP & GEP schools. They provide classes from Primary 4 all the way to Junior College 2.
