All About Full-Time Maids

Hi all,
A lump sum of my kid’s angpow money was discovered to be missing and we have since made a police report on 23rd May 2022. My case is now with Tanglin Division HQ
There are 3 main suspects here, my helper, my neighbor’s helper and a Malaysian subcontractor who came to fix some lighting fixtures.
Till date, there has been no action from the police, no interview was scheduled for the suspects despite us calling the police investigator on a daily basis. Reason given was there are many cases and insufficient resources.
Earlier, my helper and neighbor’s helper were both in great distress after they learnt that a police report had been made. Neighbor’s helper cried for days initially but dragged until today, both of them seems to have gotten over the event and are back to normal.
May I know, from you who have similar experiences, usually how long would the police take before summoning the suspects to give their statement?
Can I expect to wait for another 3 or 6 months ? -

DH said maybe the amount is too small so police is not keen to investigate. Since we lodged a report at the police station, I think should at least take statements from the helpers. -
Years ago, a neighbor had her next door helper looking for her maid one late morning in a ‘panic’ mode asking for her & claiming she passed sth to her maid frd & wanting to have them as she need to send to her family in the Philippines. My frd told her she can’t access w/o her helper’s presence.
Bcoz of the panic disposition of the neighbor ‘s helper, my frd was curious & decided to check her maid’s room (which she had nvr done before). To her shock, she was greeted with a bag of jewelry which does not belong to her nor had she ever seen them previously. A flash of possibility came to mind & she decided to pay her neighbor a visit to gently enquire if she had any missing jewelry. Her neighbor immediately checked & was panicking & screaming she had indeed lost all her jewelry & asked my frd what made her asks & if she have knowledge of whereabts of her items. My frd then sat & systematically get her neighbor to itemize every jewelry she found missing including the brand or color or distinct descriptions. Then, they agreed to report to the police & enter her maid’s room with the police. The police took statements of both helpers in the late evenings & subsequently the neighbor‘s helper was arrested & her helper was charged for abetment but was let off with a warning eventually.
I had an Indo lady for a short week or so, during which many things abt her sent alarms in my mind - on the day she arrived at my residence, she had a small bag of gold jewllery of bangle, necklaces, rings, ear rings. However, none seems to be designs of what a typical Spore family wld possess. She had pawn tickets in her possession too. I got her contact fr her frd who ‘highly’ recommended her. Then, 3 days into her service, a lady called me & it was her immediate previous eyer who related that she knew her helper had arranged to join my family & she asks previous eyer to send her to Batam instead of Solo (her original hometown). That was how I brought her in quickly enuf fr Batam. Her previous eyer started monitoring her helper & quietly read her msgs as her hubby started loosing foreign currencies fr his travel, but search as she wld, she ‘cld nvr find any money’ in her possession. She had made a police report, but the investigation led to a dead end. I was asked if I wld agree to allow the police investigator to do ano round of questioning to her & I agreed. As is, I alr hv very uneasy feelings & we decided to purchase an airtic to send her to Solo the same evening after the investigating officer done his job. Apparently, he searched thro her belongings, seen the pawn tickets, etc but nothing was enuf to charge her but these will be documented as reports that might someday build into a full case if ever she left solid evidences for a formal arrest & charge.
Unfortunately, in lee_yl’s case, unless the angpow money hv serial number indication as evidence, it’ll be hard press for the police to find evidence for conviction.
For now, the knowledge of a formal police report cld hv sparked some guilt in the theft’s conscience at best. -

I think the Police will only consider the helpers and the contractor are suspects when you said you saw any of them stole the money from your kids or you are able to prove the money with them are from the ang pow money.

If really someone near you…making a police report may help to deter them doing it again, I feel.

I received a call today that the officer in charge of my case has been changed to another IO and this new IO is more proactive and has scheduled a date for me and my neighbor to bring our helpers down to take their statements. The police is also coming down to take photographs of the scene these few days.

If I have evidence, then I don’t need the help of the police, right? I mean if I can produce CCTV footages of who stole the money, I would have solved the crime? That’s what I told my hubby too.
To me, police are trained in interrogation techniques. They know psychology. They can use lie detectors etc. Ask the helpers a series of questions and see their expressions, more or less can tell which helper is lying?
If police cannot even tell which helper is a liar, how do we expect SPF to solve major crimes?
But my DH is not hopeful, it will be a 无头公案 -

I think so too, at least the two helpers know we are serious and will go to police if anything found missing. This action itself is enough to deter them from trying to steal again. But hor, I am still having sleepless nights over this incident…
If really someone near you..making a police report may help to deter them doing it again, I feel.
