I have also met doctors here that studied 3 years in NUS or NTU and then 4 years in a aussie medical school.

So there are many ways to study medicine overseas.
For this point, I cannot disagree. Based on internet available information you have around 200 returning doctors who do housemanship in Singapore per year. That is around 25 percent!

I am not sure which uni they graduated from. Factors to get into those schools are slightly different as they don't look at RP. Nor exactly you get great BMAT or UCAT secure a place neither.

A great score in A Level, BMAT/UCAT is a start but not definite. The profile, empathy, etc, are factors in personal statement will be important towards being accepted for at least interview. The next part is doing well in the interview. What is considered a good interview? I don't know. For those been offered and accepted, you definitely must be able to afford it.

If you are equating liquidation vs overseas study, probably the cost is pretty close for the top few schools. UK Cambridge is around 60K pounds for 6 years,.Glasgow is 55K pounds for 5 yrs. Edinburgh, Manchester, Liverpool, If I recollect is cheaper. But you need to consider not taking the grant.

Experience wise, I think it will be different for studying locally and overseas for the child and parents. Assuming that the family can afford the child to study overseas with existing finances, studying locally with assumptions that the child graduate and don't break that bond, you can spend that money for great holidays and many other things (such as investing for future, such as own clinic, flat, marriage, CPF, etc)

End point is similar and that is to become a doctor. Path and journey will be different for many I believe.

        Hi,

My DD just received the mail notification for conditional admissions into the doctor of medicine degree from Duke-NUS medical school. She was previously rejected by NUS medicine, but now received this special invitation from them.

Can anyone help to advise what is this conditional admission about ? What is the difference between this degree and the normal degree offer by NUS ?

        Thank you.

I believe your DD is currently pursuing a degree courses with a university that tie-up with Duke-NUS that provide a pathway to study medicine after her graduation. Since your DD has indicated her interest and has yet to obtain her degree and graduate, she needs to fulfill all the preconditional terms set by Duke-NUS (e.g to be shortlisted for interview, maintain excellence academic results in her course of study and to take an MCAT entrance exams) before being accepted into the course to study medicine after her graduation. Do note that Duke-NUS only take in 10 spots out of those shortlisted.

The basic difference between the MBBS & MD is that MBBS is an undergraduate course that is pursued by candidates who wish to make their career in the field of medicine. Whereas, MD is a postgraduate course that can be pursued by candidates who have completed their final year of, a bachelor or honours degree. MBBS holders will not be considered for admissions. The concept of MBBS vs MD is wide and requires a complete understanding of its complex details. Candidates must note that when definitions for MBBS vs MD are given, then it may vary in other countries.

After completing an MD degree, graduates can not only call themselves an MBBS/MD, however, they can also opt for some amazing career prospects. It is indeed true that an MD has better career prospects in the long run. The pathway provides aspirants a greater career paths and prospects with potential for future growth since they have acquired the experience and knowledge during their undergraduate and postgraduate years of studies.

I heard frm my DS that he got the offer from NUS Medical School yesterday afternoon around 12noon but due to the fact that my DS is still in NS and didn’t get back to them immediately and they called me instead at around 4.30pm to ascertain that the email sent out to my son was originated from NUS medicine and not a spam email.

Understood from the person in-charge, either my son or myself have to get back to them the next day before 9am. So, I couldn’t reach my son at that time, I was replying to NUS Office admission on his behalf to confirm the acceptance of the offer that he wishes to matriculate the medicine course this year.

It’s a kind of relief to all of us now as compared to my daughter’s time 8-year ago, she got 2 offers from both universities (ie NUS & NTU).

For those who are still in WL, there is still a good chance to receive good news from NUS medicine.

                All the best & TC

Frankly speaking, in my entire life, I've never has this anxiety over children's education, result release & postings etc at all but this time round, somehow, I'm very anxious over this. Maybe the competition is far too stiff ? Just pray hard ...
I am glad to hear your DS has received the offer from NUS yesterday. Congratulations, as I said before....no need to anxious.. just with a peaceful mind.
