Know of bright students who didn’t bother with IP and opted for SST instead of NUS HIGH. So in a sense since IP is still available after 4 years of O track in SST, those interested in STEM have the option of doing As, IB, Poly, with those definitely certain of STEM opting for poly after sec 2, this makes SST more attractive than straight forward IP.
depends on how the parents think / feel.
At P6, being children, kids are still being greatly influenced by their parents' influence. After all, who go online to submit the DSA portal entries? Is the parents.
So, if the parents don't think much of SST, they will discourage their kid from applying, encourage them to apply for the usual traditional O-level / IP schools. On the other hand, if the parents are open minded, they will encourage their kid to try SST (DSA). Depend on which group, they fall under.
In reality, on hind sight, those who go Poly & after that go Uni, they are doing very well too. For me, if after taken O-level, if u already very clear of what you want in life, is better to do the (Poly + Uni) path, instead of (JC + Uni) path, because Polytechnic offer \"Specialized\" early career training skills, unlike the general A-level. But this is my own personal opinion, don't need to agree with me. -

couldn't agree more

Because
at the end of Sec 2, they are more mature since they are teens,
have an idea of what they want to pursue, no longer having the P6 child mindset. If the child strongly want to take the through train Diploma route, parents can step aside, even if parents don't like this route, let their child (student) pursue their own interests, as they have their own life to lead from then. The students have their own life, to live.
At end of Sec 2, peer pressure is very strong. Bear in mind they are already teens, no more a 12 year-old P6 kid -

Hi. I believe the test is for ALL candidates this year. I.e. no selection or rejection for the first round. Wait patiently and also check the spam folder for notifications with the details. Good luck!

SST is very strict !
Anyone received the 2nd round email for SST?
I called them and they told me it will be out end July. Just wondering if anyone has received the email. thanks
We experienced this before, in pre-covid year DSA exercises.
If SST tell you that results will be out on end July,
then
SST will stick to this date. Not any earlier date, to any candidate. This is how strict SST is.
After all,
for Phase 2 test dates,
the earliest test date SST mentioned on the website is \"6 August\". So, when short-listed candidates are informed on end July,
from
(end of July month-end received notification to 6 August),
there's still a substantial amount of time left, to attend Phase 2 test.
