Up and onz! I was a former St Andrew's student too
So happy new year to all, 2022 has begun, I am a parent with a K2 girl and I am planning to apply for her in SMPS in the P1 exercise this year. We have no affiliations so will be be in phase 2C (2km SC), which I think we can get her in. I know in 2023 the school will still be at MacPherson, so most likely we will go for a school bus option in P1. I was a former student at St. Andrew's, so I guess I am familiar with the school culture and I think it should be a good fit for my girl. Any other parents planning or considering to apply SMPS this year?
For those with children currently in the school, I would like to ask:
1. How is the academic drive (is it a pressure cooker, each student developed at their own pace or laissez faire)?
2. There seems to be relatively few CCAs, does it mean each of the CCAs have many members?
3. I have read in these forums the teachers are quite concerned about their students, so am I right to say SMPS has a caring school environment?
Thanks in advance.
St Margaret's a pretty decent school and you have to be prepared for a bit of balloting in Phase 2C, unless you are within 2km, then ok. For the last 10 years, no Singaporean has needed to be balloted if they are within 2km.
I leave it to parents with children in St Margaret's to answer your other questions. -
Sorry to sound like a broken record but anyone knows anything regarding SMPS' renovation? I pass by the school every morning to drive to the Mattar Road site and see nothing being done. Not a single movement at all and its coming to March. Looking at the proposed construction of the new building and also other things on the plans, I wonder if they really can complete works by end December 2023.

I was at Wilkie today as well, and yes no sign of any works done. I’m wondering if they can really meet the Dec 2023 timeline to move back… Does anyone have any info?

The school is following up very closely and there shouldn't be an issue. What they will be doing is to renovate the existing blocks and facilities, and to build a new block. But even if the move cannot be on-time, SMPS is a school that all the little girls look forward to go to every morning and a school they miss deeply during the holidays. That's make it all worth the travel.

The renovation work has started about a month ago, and I can see half the building has been tear down. Definitely some major construction going on.

To be prudent, you may want to estimate it to mid or late 2024 for renovation to be completed due to COVID-19 factor. I doubt renovation can be completed by Dec 2023.

Hello all,
I am intending to place my daughter in SMPS in 2024. Wondering if anyone knows if there is/will have school bus going to Clementi/West coast area ?
Thanks ! -

Very good chance. Has a low probability of balloting for SC > 2km happening but I think it’s worthwhile to take the risk.

Actually it's hard to say. Only 101 places are now available and there were 110 applicants last year and it required balloting. There are already 52 applicants this year. The good news is that it has required at most balloting for SC >2km throughout all these years that we have been monitoring. :xedfingers:
