If miss national exam, falling back to prelim results would mean (in a nutshell)
Hi parents, with the prelims coming up soon, I’d like to perhaps steel myself mentally for any tough papers/big drop in results.
During the mid-year PTM, DS’ form teacher said that schools “no longer” set killer prelim papers.
Can I check how true this is? Did your kids’ teachers say likewise? Did the more recent (for example) 2020 and 2021 prelims seems easier compared to previous years? I have not gotten round to looking at/analyzing various schools’ prelim papers yet.
- find the students in your child’s school who score the same result as your child during prelim
- then assign those students’ (average?) national exam result to your child.
I believe that is how bench marking works. Then there is no need to lower prelim exam standard because it is still about relative performance? -
For ref, this was 2021’s press release by MOE:
https://www.moe.gov.sg/news/press-releases/20210926-arrangements-for-national-examination-candidates-affected-by-covid-19
It seems that bbbay is correct regarding the benchmarking. There are even full colour graphs in the Annex to illustrate the example scenarios. -

If a P6 student is hospitalised in (Tan Tock Seng or NUH or SGH), because of
It being a transmissible “disease”, I cant imagine what the medical protocol would be: ask the invigilators to wear full PPE before handing out/collecting the papers? And then sterilize the papers (how?) before transporting them to SEAB? It would be very difficult to administer.
While there have been past cases of kids taking the PSLE while hospitalised in normal wards, I dont think any of them were as contagious as Covid.
A friend’s son had to miss 4 written papers this recent SA1 (MYE). Report book indicated “ungraded”. School did not make arrangements for him to take in another room or make up once recovered.
covid or some other sickness,
why can't
the student go to a quarantined room inside hospital premises,
let the nurse wearing PPE gear (not the MOE invigilator in PPE gear) pass pupil the exam paper, then when time's up, collect back the exam paper from pupil ?
Covid is transmitted via air-borne Air particles, through breathing.
If scared,
assuming that one PSLE Maths subject contain Total 10 pages inside,
then after time's up,
ask the P6 pupil to remove the staple first, then place each of his 10 pages answers, inside each of the 10 transparent A4 sized plastic cover, then tie one string around to secure all these 10 transparent plastic cover together properly, before submit to the nurse, who in turn will pass back to the Moe invigilator ourside the quarantined awaiting on hospital ground, who will then transport this pupil's answers back to SEAB, for marking.
One can easily buy one stack of several transparent A4 sized plastic cover, from Popular bookshop. -
Guess now in order to be hospitalized one need to be with a more serious condition? If so, will doctor certify the kid fit to sit for exam?

It is really inconvenient that the wave is happening around exam period…I personally it is around us now.

Zac's mom, so many classmates getting it..so far zac is steady? Zac taken 2 doses only or with booster?
Well, around half my son’s class has already caught it once during this recent wave, either during June hols or now…the “good” thing is exams have yet to commence. I’d try to avoid it during exam season. Also unknown if they can actually catch it again. Load them up with Vit C and Sambucol and whatever you have…
-

So many of my friends and their kids at home, caught this recent wave of covid. At first, one family member fell sick first, fever at 38 degree celsius. Then, later, spread to another family member, then another...

Last week was 9000+, then climbed up to 11000+ ? -

Zac not yet turned 12 so only taken the first 2 doses, not eligible for booster until after 12th birthday, I believe.

So far he has not caught it yet, though plenty of kids coughing in class. Teacher told all of them to swab yesterday just to check, if negative then next day can attend. He says he felt some instinct telling him to change seats one day (when the teacher asked who wants to swop seats), and then after that all the boys around his former seatmate caught it (from that seatmate, who was asymptomatic at that point).
We are not too worried even if catch. Looks like all of these kids are just akin to mild flu symptoms and recovered quickly. -

Don't forget most Covid patients may experience brain fogs or poor memory for a certain period after infection.
