"However, if like nowadays Primary school without Primary one Examinations and thus if no Report Books given by the school and the child studied half year or so , NO PROOF OF REPORT BOOKS WHICH MEANS NOT ENTITLED TO ANY PHASES ABOVE" [No report book ? Cannot be lah, P3 onwards will have exams right ?] -

Some school do not have exams in P1 (ONLY P1), but they are given surprise tests and after informing for later date test ,spellings both Chinese and English every one week or every two weeks, worksheets etc.
P2 onwards have Exams. -

we were informed how the composition of the final scores, which include assessments like show & tell, etc that will take places throughout the year (mainly second half).
there is also a progress report book and PTS to inform us how our child is doing in school. Somewhat like kindergarten days. -
Hi tankee/sc88,
I like weekly tests bcos they will keep kids on their toes. Exams are stressful but with consistent revision, it should not be that bad.
So no CA and SA1 ???
Thanks for the info…will plan her schedule accordingly. -
Tankee's rite. They do formative assessments for P1 which can be a good
thing cos the child is assessed as an all rounder instead of just paper
intelligence. It keeps my DD2 on her toes too! Just means that
she has to do good for everything. Hehee. She did exceptionally
great too much to our surprise! It helps having an inspiring and
motivating teacher.. teacher ONZ children also become ONZ.
That said DD2 will have a first taste of paper examinations come SA2. But
the teacher assured us that they would be gradually prepared for them
with mini tests and also mock papers in exam setting just to name a few..
Different schools will take a different approach. Best to find out during the
school's orientation.

my P2 did not have SA1 this year, only SA2.
they had topical/mini test for all subjects (which parents were not informed about when were the tests) which we will sign and go thru when they brought back the files. Towards May, where there is supposed to be SA1, they had 'Revision' papers instead (which we were also unaware of) which although were graded, but will not be in the report book. Their report books only have ABCD etc for areas like communications etc and also a short teacher's comment/remark. -

TNS conducted revision tests which schedule were not made known in advance and scores were not counted. These tests allow us to know how much our children have learnt in class and whether they need extra help like tuition.Hi tankee/sc88,

Hi everyone, thanks for all your valuable inputs…any feedback if P1 needs to engage private tutor or enrichment classes like learning lab, berries etc are good enough?
-
Hi Mummies,
Thanks for all your valuable input.
At this point in time, my mind is just focused on registering her for P1 first. Then will ask mummies in the school if there is CA/SA for P1/2.
So if there is no CA/SA1 for P1, then SA2 will be crucial.
In any case, will monitor how she fares along the way and adjusts accordingly. -

I would say depends on individual child and his or her parents' expectation & definition of success.
