The stats may be skewed quite a bit. Top IPs have a much lower rate (<10%?) of getting CO or converted WL compared to the rest. Of course some top schools also offer O-Level DSA may boost the numbers.
Here are some stats I've posted before. I think the IP applications / vacancy is >10x (or < 10%). However, we don't know how many unique applicants there were for the ~1,200 IP slots. The chance of acceptance for IP (CO or WL converted) is likely lower than the overall DSA percentage of ~30% but probably not as low as 10%.

Regardless, the challenge of this is that these are only the unconditional odds (whatever they are). The conditional odds for any one kid could be very different.

Anyways, good luck to those that are still in the running :rahrah:

It was listed in one of the MOE releases or news articles that in 2020 roughly 1/3 of 3,600 admitted were to IP.

You can also try to count up the IP cohorts x 30% + NUSH should be about 1,200 as well.

DS got to the final round of DSA Football with VS. Interview will be on the spot once selected from final round. Same day affair.

Anyone has past experience of DSA Football interview tips?

Other dilemma is 2 other schools clash trials on same day and time. Have to strategise that as well.

Refer Straits time article, in year 2020 that said -

                  3600 seats went to DSA

The interview we went to had 26 kids that day. I heard usually there are 2-3 spots available, let's say IP x1, O-Level x2. These are the odds I was expecting tbh. But if 10% is based on number of applicants, that would mean the number of places on offer could double or even triple. Our chance would be much higher. Fingers crossed 🤞

Hello Parents, I’ve also received invitation from St Nic leadership. Apparently different dates issued as mentioned by other parents. But I don’t pin alot of hopes la (although my 2nd one has slightly better profile) as my eldest 4 years ago went through 3 schs interview n non she got in… hahaha…

I think the issue is we only have total applicants / total spots. We don't have applicants and spots per each domain.

Here are some more stats. Quite frankly, they are all kind of useless but I'll type them anyways 😂 😂 .

2021 IP Applications: 12,874 (41% of Total Applications).
                        -->Number of Unique Applicants:
                        -1 application per applicant = 12,847 applicants
                        -2 applications per applicant = 6,437 applicants
                        -3 applications per applicant = 4,291 applicants
*Overall applications per applicant is 2.6 (IP + Non-IP)

Assuming 1,233 IP spots (1/3 of 3,700), the success rate for the corresponding assumed applicants above is 10%, 19%, or 29%.

Truth is, as of now the odds have already shifted based on the shortlisting process. Based on different domains and number of kids shortlisted, I think the odds for some domains within a school could still be < 10% (i.e. 10+ shortlisted per available space) or as high as 30%-40%. It all depends on how many the school shortlisted and how many they are likely looking to take in (+/-). And more importantly, it still comes down to the individual applicant.

Anyways, if the child is still in the game then they still have a shot. My suggestion is don't worry about the odds too much. There's nothing we can do to change them and as mentioned my view is that the average odds are not really applicable to most. Good luck to all! :rahrah: :rahrah:
