My eldest in sec 4 RGS, youngest in sec 2 NYGH. My wife always worried their HCL, I do look and they are quite difficult by my standard. Though both my wife and me are from SAP schools also. I told both of them they need to master the language as Chinese will be very important language when they grow up, both economic and culture.
For sure HCL is not easy. Especially as the NYGH HCL teachers have high standards and use failing in WAs as a means to teach: Dont make the same mistake again, girls! On the bright side, this (some might say, harsh) way of teaching does leave an impression on the girls. The good thing is, you and your wife can actually help your girls with HCL! I'm pretty hands off, other than nagging, due to cannot make it Chinese standards. Not sure if your RGS girl has an easier time of it with HCL?

My eldest also took HCL in RGS, it is also quite tough, and she will be taking o level chinese soon. I do think standard between RGS and NYGH is about similar, but NYGH probably makes the student more appreciative of chinese language and link them to culture events like mooncake, CNY, dumpling makings etc.

          Hi sob7

I read that your girl went for Maths 2 tuition.

          1. May I know is it a 1-1 or group? Could I have the contact?
          2. Is it following RGS syllabus?
          3. Did your girl find it helpful and effective?

          Thank you.

It's normal to be concerned, you can always check up with her if she can handle the workload.
The gals can always ask their teachers if they do not understand the lessons, teachers are approachable.
But let her tell you if she has difficulties

Hi, can someone share a bit on DSA selection? What do they test on and what they meant by performance task? Is it like practical test? Do they face a panel for interview? Thx

                  1. Small group. 2 or 3 students.

                  2. Not sure if the tutor follows the RGS math curriculum exactly. But my daughter is doing well.

                  3. Yes I would think so, her results have been to my satisfaction thus far.

Hi can I know the streaming process in RGS? Which year will the girls choose subjects, change classes and the requirements to choose subjects? Thanks in advance!

                      Standard Y3 streaming process.

The girls are expected to choose their subjects combi in Y2.
In Y3 - they will be streamed according to the subjects combi.

                        Thanks Momo70 for your reply.

I see so it’s the same as most schools.
I heard from a parent that at the start of Y1 the girls can choose to take CL or HCL. At the end of Y1, if they don’t do well, they may be asked to drop certain modules or subjects. I’m not sure how true this is.
