Before reaching the interview stage, there is the psychometric test, and there is also a stressful \"chit chat\".
PSC Scholarship is for those intending to pursue a career in the Public Service. I know of some top students not intending to apply for PSC Scholarship as they do not see themselves as public servants (e.g, entrepreneurs, academic career, …).
If she has applied for PSC Scholarship, it is quite surprising that she was not selected for interview. Given her impressive portfolio and achievements, I think she has a very bright future ahead of her. Hope she got herself another scholarship.
Thanks for sharing.
PSC wants to portray itself as being diversified, looking not just at grades. Same for Medicine. So they like to highlight a few non-JC recipients. But looking at this year's PSC recipients, the majority are still from the same schools.

I went through PSC website before and came across the advice given on how to handle PSC interviews. Some of the advices are: “be yourself; we want to see the real you”. “ it is ok to disagree with the interviewers as long you can explain your reasons”

The stressful \"chit chat\" is for PSC to assess the character amongst other traits. For a student who has straight As throughout without facing any failures before, I'm afraid it's a no go also. VIA portfolio is all \"man-made\". That's not to say PSC's assessment is always correct. After all, it's still humans' decisions, which is still fallible.

Since we are in a DSA thread, just like to share with parents it's ok not to be successful. In fact, all the rejections / wait list that come along make the child a stronger person. All the best in your DSA journey. -

To complement the great answers parents here have shared for this question, in our case the boy is brilliant but not well rounded. Thus AL system is disadvantageous for him, as near perfection in one or two subjects cannot help the weakness in others. Our estimate of his AL is AL9 (Math AL1, Science AL2, English AL3, Malay AL3) which is far from COP of “top” schools. He’d have much better chance with the previous T-score based PSLE score, but zilch with AL.
Sorry for my insensitivity and ignorance. For children with AL4-6, wouldn't it better to use psle score instead of DSA? They might be able to enter a \"better\" school with psle result? Actually they can choose any school with that result
Furthermore his dream school (NUSH) only accepts via DSA. -

I have a very strong feeling that NUS High will take in your son. So, not to worry too much. In fact, I personally feel that NUS High is very suitable for your son, a much better fit than any of those IP-A-level destination bound Secondary schools.

For DSA academic domain like (Maths & Science) or
for DSA Sports domain, no need to be an \"all rounder\". -

yes we received email for second round a week before from SST...second round will be held on AUG 6
Did not received any email from SST for the 2nd round yet.
Look like the chances of getting into the 2nd round of selection is slim now.

Totally agree that analytically NUSH seems to be the best fit, not under-fitting nor overfitting for my child’s persona/profile & passion; but all is in God’s Hand now.
I hope everyone will get good-fitting school for each kid, not a bad-fit and god-forbid misfit. -
