May I suggest to look beyond uni and go further, when making education decisions. After uni it’s not the end , the child still has a very long way to go in life.

Take for example why PSC conduct interviews and not only rely on academic result when awarding scholarships? It is to establish applicants’ character among many things, whether fit public service. And in the working world/with friends/family, a person that know when to compete/cooperate/compromise (look at what is happening around the world now) is wiser than one that only compete ( wouldn’t be pleasant if the child is competitive with siblings/parents too) . To me, these are values, often acquired during formative years of the child in schools.

Agree that the values are important. But also true that some schools simply have better resources and network and are therefore able to develop their students.

Not only JC but even at primary level. Some schools exposes their students to more competition and training. Help to build their portfolio for dsa and scholarship at a later stage. One of the reasons why some parents work hard to send their children to better primary schools.

Hi All, would like to have some advise if given a choice for RI & NYJC, thru DSA for basketball, which one will be a better choice? how's their culture? Which one is more stressful? My gal is currently studying in AHS, so we thou maybe NYJC will be a better choice for her as culture is similar, but i heard they have a lot of tests going on every now and then. RI seems good but afraid my gal cannot blend in. Thank you in advance...
I think schools are now more careful/mindful in awarding Sports COs. If your child has received CO from both schools, very likely the schools have assessed your child to be a good fit (including the academic aspect) for the schools.

So now it boils down to which school your child prefers. I am sure she has 1st choice and 2nd choice in her mind. In the event, if my child’s first choice is NYJC and parents here prefer that she picks RI, I will try to persuade her to go RI. But in the event she still decides to pick NYJC, I will respect her choice because at the age of 16yo, she is mature enough to make a decision.

            exactly !

            Students at age 16,
have a mind of their own. They are not PSLE kid anymore. Will be disastrous, if any parent were to attempt to \"force\" their kid to go to a certain JC direction. Let the kid make her own decision, where she want to go, is the best lah !

Besides, in school, I am sure her classmates, Cca mates and school mates will definitely talk a lot about these 2 JCs during break time, since they are also choosing which JCs they want to go to, right ? Come on, this is a topic so close to these teenagers' heart. So, why worry un-necessarily, for your kid ? They already have an idea inside their mind, which is a better fit JC, for themselves.

Besides, at 16 yo, everyday, the kids see their Teachers in class. The kids will know how to consult their class Sec 4 Form Teacher, plus other subject Teachers they are close to, independently, to solicit direct feedback from Teachers, what they think of these 2 JCs, or ask for their Upper Sec 4 Teachers' opinion : which they deem, is a better fit for them ?

Furthermore, is the kid herself going to study, at either of these JC. Not the mother going there to study, right ? (As if the mother is going to study in RI or Nanyang)

            Really don't understand.
If at P6, u worry which Secondary school your kid go to, that is understandable, because they are still young, still need parentals' guidance. But at 16 yo, still refuse to let go the apron string, still want to control tightly, like ....

            Summarize

At the end of the day, let your daughter make the decision, herself. Ask her, which JC, she want to go to ? You can only be a \"coach\", but cannot make the decision, for her. Only when she make the decision herself, then whatever challenge were to come along, she will have the perseverance, the internal self-motivation fighting power, to overcome. Why ? Because she owns her decision making process. Ownership has to come from the daughter herself, not from the mother

I think at the end of the day, we can only guide and not force. After all, they are the ones studying.

Reposting from previous post. Any updates parents?

Congrats to parents & kids who have received Co / WL. Appreciate if we could keep an updated CO list (by copy & paste the below portion)

My son got offer from NUS High and is appearing for RI (Maths domain) interview coming Friday, 12th August. Do other parents have any tips about the interview- how to prepare the child for it? He also applied for ACS (I) but never received a call for test/interview, which is strange.

I estimate that there’s about 3 more weeks to go before most schools start to issue DSA results. I’m trying to focus on upcoming oral and actual PSLE exams, but I still think about the DSA a lot, wishing I could know the outcome now. I’m glad my child is more oblivious than me. If any parents with younger kids ask me, I’ll say the worst part of the whole DSA process is the waiting. Anyone can relate?

I tend to agree on the timeline. HCI is due to release results on 26 August, and based on recent years I don't think very many other schools (IP in particular) will be out before then.

PSLE Oral is the next main thing to cross off the list. Per above, most students will have to take Prelims before DSA results are known as well (cheers to the NUSH CO kiddos, they can :imcool: the rest of the way).

If your child happens to pull off a WL, then you get to wait some more until late-Nov to see if it gets converted along with receiving the actual PSLE results 😄 😄 😄

Best of luck to your kid. For the fortunate ones, the picture will be much clearer come late-Aug / early-Sept :rahrah: :rahrah:

Totally agree. The waiting is just painful.

It doesn't help that some schools provide decisions far earlier than others. I don't think that this is fair. Results, like deadlines, should be fixed so that every child is (as far as possible) working off the same page. If not, it offers some a sense of relief which others may not enjoy. Note also that the sense of relief can lead to complacency so early results can be counterproductive. (Just pointing out that it cuts both ways.)

I appreciate that MOE has done a lot to streamline the DSA process but I feel that more can be done to encourage fairness and transparency.

                      Just my 2c.

                        When is your slot time?
