      I am actually quite surprised to learn that Poi Ching has not required phase 2b balloting for the past 5y. Given that it is a SAP sch (I imagine all other SAP sch are really well demanded), I wonder why balloting is not required in phase 2b esp.since this year the 2b places are split 1/3 2/3 to phase 2c.
      1. Don’t accept many PV.
      2. Don’t have many GRL.
      3. Clan is small-ish, not comparable to the churches or SHHK.

      Poi Ching and RGPS are the two oddities where SAP / GEP schools are concerned. They are the only two that rarely ballot at Phase 2B albeit for different reasons.

      Phase 2C is a different ballgame though. Poi Ching will attract > 100 applicant.

        For 2B, I think Hong Wen has been in the clear in recent years as well (i.e. no ballot). Similar to Poi Ching, 2C is < 1 km ballot.

          Yea, forgot about that one. I think Hong Wen School case very similar to Poi Ching. Displaced from original site, don’t accept many PV, not many (youngish) GRL and small-ish clan.

            Chongzheng ended up with 54 spots available in 2C, a few more than most of us expected (40-50 range). Still, ended up balloting < 1 km. The record stands as:

            a) Ballot < 1 km:
            2018 = 47 spots
            2020 = 33 spots
            2021 = 30 spots
            2022 = 54 spots

            b) Ballot 1-2 km:
            2016 = 64 spots
            2017 = 72 spots
            2019 = 69 spots

            Poi Ching, St Hilda’s, and Gongshang are the other three balloting < 1 km (as usual).

            Tampines Primary has 5 spots remaining for 2CS. Angsana is the next fewest at 31 spots available, which is quite a bit lower than prior years (likely due to new HDBs in the area and new building open for 2023 P1s).

              Don't forget that this year, Phase 2C has 20 more places from Phase 2A. So marginally, it would have increased 54 - 20 - 30 = 4 places more that last year 🙂

              It appears that there are a lot more schools balloting in Phase 2C <1km this year. Probably because many parents failed the earlier phases and had to try for Phase 2C.

                Chongzheng had 30 seats last year in 2C. It was given (or guaranteed) 10 more due to the rule change. The add'l 14 seats are a result of lower take up in 2B. I don't think it is correct to say the marginal change is 4 places. Regardless, the relevant information seems to be that at 54 seats it will still ballot < 1 km. This has narrowed the 1 km to 1-2 km range from 47-64 to 54-64.

                  Hi parents,

                  Planning for backup for my boy for pri 1 reg this year as we only have 2 schools <1km from our place which is Poi Ching and St Hilda 🥺

                  Can any parents from East Spring / Yumin advise on the school?

                  Or should I just give up on Poi Ching to go for Junyuan as past history shows that all can be allocated a seat for Junyuan 2C and I read recent reviews that Poi Chong’s new P is not that good.

                  Thanks for any advice!

                    Hi parents,

                    Our son has the option to go MK at angsana. There aren’t a lot of information on Angsana Priamry School around. Would any parmets be able to advise whether it’s OK to place our son in Angsana Primary School.

                    We’d love for our son to go St Hilda’s, but we live within 2km of the school, so I tuink the chances are pretty low… Please advise. Thank you 🙂

                      I would suggest that you check out the school by observing the kids during dismissal time. Personally, I’m not keen 😅

                      St Hilda’s is out of the equation for anyone staying out of 1km as the ballot is only for those staying within 1km.
