My son got offer from NUS High and is appearing for RI (Maths domain) interview coming Friday, 12th August. Do other parents have any tips about the interview- how to prepare the child for it? He also applied for ACS (I) but never received a call for test/interview, which is strange.
There is no need for prep if your son is already good at Oral. Ideally, he has spent time in the school's e-open house and visit its website to know more about the school (do check out the videos and FAQs too). He should know why he applies to the school and be able to share passionately about his talent area.
My son went for DSA interviews in 2 IP schools (pre-Covid). Both interviews were in groups of 3. He felt comfortable and enjoyed the process. I think the secondary school teachers tried their best to make the kids at ease. At the end of the day, the school also want to give a good impression as they would want the kids to choose the school too (whether via DSA or PSLE results).
He got his offer from both the schools.\t

As long as you put a CO school as first choice, your child will be posted to that school (as long as he/she achieves a PSLE score that qualifies the student for a course offered by the school).

What I mean is people seem to be complaining some schools have released CO now, others have not. Unfair! But one could also say it is \"unfair\" if some kids sit for PSLE knowing they have a CO while most have to sweat the results slip?

To be clear, I'm fine with the current system. But if there is a common CO release date as some are advocating for, I would make it after the PSLE written papers but before the PSLE results are out. For example, PSLE ends 5 October. Release the CO outcomes on 10 Oct and preference submission still due early-Nov. In this case, all kids sit for PSLE not knowing whether they have anything in hand.
The downside to a common timeline is why do you need three COs? If you know which one you want and get it, you can inform the other schools and let them give the CO to someone else (yes, others have done this in the past). Of course, some kids don't know which one they want and wish to evaluate all options after PSLE. That is OK too. -

I estimate that there's about 3 more weeks to go before most schools start to issue DSA results. I'm trying to focus on upcoming oral and actual PSLE exams, but I still think about the DSA a lot, wishing I could know the outcome now. I'm glad my child is more oblivious than me. If any parents with younger kids ask me, I'll say the worst part of the whole DSA process is the waiting. Anyone can relate?
My DS applied for 3 schools (pre Covid). I gave him a rough indication of his chance and told him that just like most of the applicants, the chance is slim in getting a CO (DSA Academic). He should just try his best and get to know the school better through the process. He enjoyed the open-houses exploring the school, canteen food, tests, interviews .... We did not talk about DSA anymore after the last stage of each school. He continued his life as usual. We just inform him the outcome when we received it from the 3 schools (each on a different day). -

all DSA exercises, to accept or reject DSA COs,
can only be done \"AFTER\" the last Psle paper is over.
Why ?
What's the reason ?
Why cannot exercise your DSA option, \"BEFORE\" Psle is over ?
So that -
your own child know jolly well for himself (herself) , whether
1) he (she) has done well, or not, in ALL his Total (4 or 5) Psle subject papers sat for
And
2) from there, decide whether he still need or don't need anymore those COs (reject / throw away the COs).
Why \"can throw away\" these COs or Wait-list, earned ?
Because
some of you may have applied for DSA, in \"half-hearted\" schools, adopt just to try attitude, \"look and see how first, later on then decide \".
So, even if these \"half-hearted\" schools were to offer u COs or Wait-lists, actually, deep inside u, u may not even be that interested nor very keen to take up. So, if u have done well in your overall Total 4 subjects, might as well enter by the actual PSLE AL score results released in November, into your \"dream\" school, instead of into your \"half-hearted\" DSA school, and become held under bondage (trapped), for the next minimum 4 years DSA commitment.
In the DSA exercises, there are 2 groups of students out here :-
3) one group of students, really very keen in the DSA \"dream\" school they applied for,
4) another group of students, not that keen in their \"half-hearted\" school. But still, they went ahead, proceed to apply, because to them, in their mind, having something is better than zero (nothing) & because they are also caught up by the DSA commotion & \"fever\" in school, seeing so many of their classmates having applied for DSA. So, they also hopped into the band wagon -

I think both websites say \"by\" XX Sept? I.e. the final result could come earlier. I don't think schools are waiting to see how prelims go. As you mention, papers could be set differently and actual PSLE results could be higher or lower. Based on P5 SA2/Overall and P6 SA1 the schools should have a decent idea of how the kids will manage themselves in Secondary school. Portfolios + selection tests/interviews should give them the domain specific info they need.

Not to flog this point but MOE says that all results will be out by 12 September, which means that it can come earlier but not later.

I also agree with the others that the student's prelim results are unlikely to have any bearing on the DSA application. The schools have already got a fair assessment of the student's academic capabilities from his/her P5 and P6 SA1 performance. So, the deadline is more to give the schools the time to sieve through the many applications and decide which students to grant DSAs too.
I believe that there's a lot of work which goes into this, especially for the more popular schools which receive countless applications each year (some are still running interviews at this stage). So, in all fairness, giving them till mid-September seems fair.
For the moment, it's a waiting game but it's nice to know that many others are also in the same boat
