While RJC and HCI undoubtably continue to attract some of the brightest kids, the question of NYJC overtaking some of the old favourites is kinda 'iffy'.

One can point to the COP and argue that it is getting good quality in and is among the most popular school among O Level programme cohort, the anecdotal evidence in terms of the matriculated students in the most 'desired' courses, i.e. medicine, law, etc as well as the students picking up the scholarships awarded are still from the 'old favourites'.
      :siam:
I do think NJC/VJC are not as good as compared to more than 10 years ago. Just look at the president scholar awards, NJC used to have many in the 1980-2000, but not anymore now. Nowadays are always from HCJC or RJC. This year a lone one from ACJC. Noticed past 3 years those president scholars from HCJC are gals from NYGH.

        Thank you!

So for WL, we are still able to put out preference ?

        For example: school A - WL , school B - confirmed

We put our preferences as School A first followed by School B, if we don’t get into school A , do we still have chance for school B?
Yes, you can put School A - WL as first choice and if the WL is not converted you will still be posted to School B - CO second choice as long as the student qualifies for a course in the School B.

          Got good reviews meh? :heresmyfish:[/quote]
Don't have... but hey, it's still part of the family right? :siam:
Unfortunately, every school will come with a bit of good, a bit of bad... unless you are only looking at schools in the single digit range.
Depending on how the results go, I will probably keep schools like CTSS, KCPSS, PHS, SASS, YTSS, ZHSS in mind.

Yes. School B (CO) will be confirmed if WL for school A is not converted.

            All the best.
Ohhh okay, understand now .. Thank you so much!! 😊

https://kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2055572 include one from VJC (one out of four).
              2020 1 recipients.
              2021 2 recipients.
              2022 4 recipients.

If you are comparing them with more than 10 years ago, it's correct that there are fewer President Scholars from NJC, VJC these days. However, it should be noted that fewer President Scholarships are also being awarded these days. RI and HCI continue to dominate, which is understandable, but probably not desirable.

Notwithstanding, as your argument was that the 'old favourites' are being overtaken, it should be noted that the new favourite has yet to produce one.

I think what his happening is that in addition to fewer being awarded (assuming what you say is true), the students are dispersed around more these days than before the ramp up of the IPs? Before the IP programmes (starting 2004 to 2013), everyone could target a few JCs based on O level scores. Assuming people selected JCs like they selected secondary schools under t-score ( 😂 ), this would likely lead to a concentration of potential candidates in a handful of locations.

Now, a lot of students are already tied to a JC based on their secondary school choice. I.e. DHS, SNGS, RVHS, etc students no longer going elsewhere after four years.

                    Do note the following:-

                    1) List in order of preference. ie., school A (1st choice) is preferred
                    2) If WL for school A is converted, then the student will be posted to school A (subject to the student achieving a PSLE score that qualifies them for a course offered by school A)
                    3) If WL for school A is not converted, then the student will be posted to school B (subject to the student achieving a PSLE score that qualifies them for a course offered by school B)

The student will not have a chance to take part in the Secondary 1 posting process (based on PSLE results). Do make sure that the student likes school B in the event that the WL for school A is not converted.

                    All the best.

I deliberately steered away from choosing a SAP school for him, knowing that he wont suit the academic rigor + extra strict school rules.

Understand you have your own consideration. But for the sake of discussion, I think these SAP schools are not as traditional (strict rules) as other SAP schools:

                      Catholic High
                      Anglican High
                      Maris Stella High

Thx. I will keep an open mind and bring him to open house if results can meet their COP. He did express a preference for all-boys schools over co-ed. Not that he cant get along with girls (he does) but they seem more intimidating academically.
