I think what his happening is that in addition to fewer being awarded (assuming what you say is true), the students are dispersed around more these days than before the ramp up of the IPs? Before the IP programmes (starting 2004 to 2013), everyone could target a few JCs based on O level scores. Assuming people selected JCs like they selected secondary schools under t-score (
.....
If you are comparing them with more than 10 years ago, it's correct that there are fewer President Scholars from NJC, VJC these days. However, it should be noted that fewer President Scholarships are also being awarded these days. RI and HCI continue to dominate, which is understandable, but probably not desirable.
.....
), this would likely lead to a concentration of potential candidates in a handful of locations.
Now, a lot of students are already tied to a JC based on their secondary school choice. I.e. DHS, SNGS, RVHS, etc students no longer going elsewhere after four years. -

1) List in order of preference. ie., school A (1st choice) is preferred
2) If WL for school A is converted, then the student will be posted to school A (subject to the student achieving a PSLE score that qualifies them for a course offered by school A)
3) If WL for school A is not converted, then the student will be posted to school B (subject to the student achieving a PSLE score that qualifies them for a course offered by school B)
The student will not have a chance to take part in the Secondary 1 posting process (based on PSLE results). Do make sure that the student likes school B in the event that the WL for school A is not converted.
All the best. -

Understand you have your own consideration. But for the sake of discussion, I think these SAP schools are not as traditional (strict rules) as other SAP schools:
I deliberately steered away from choosing a SAP school for him, knowing that he wont suit the academic rigor + extra strict school rules.

Thx. I will keep an open mind and bring him to open house if results can meet their COP. He did express a preference for all-boys schools over co-ed. Not that he cant get along with girls (he does) but they seem more intimidating academically.

Hi all, one question. If I cant get to the 1st choice of school i put on the dsa selection form and got selected to my 2nd choice, will the 2nd choice school know they are the 2nd choice? 😂

You are asking about the situation above where 1st Choice is WL and 2nd Choice is CO, but WL is not converted?

I don't believe 2nd choice school will know but I am not certain on this. Regardless, the student will still be posted to the 2nd Choice (as long as he/she qualifies for an academic stream in the school). -
Can I check if any WL offers have been received ?
I would have guessed that COs will be distributed first, then WL offers closer to the mid Sept deadline right ? Keen to hear from the more experienced folks here. -

No. Most schools will release CO/WL on the same day.

I know of a few cases (pre-Covid) where WL was converted to CO prior to the mid Sep deadline. This is usually due to students with multiple COs and they call up the school to release the CO if they have already decided not to join that school. Not sure if this is still possible these days.
All the best.
