Sure, to each his own...
One man's meat is another man's poison.
In the end, there's just a lot of negative energy wasted on things that can't be changed. IMHO, much better to redirect elsewhere. I'll probably be absent 29 Sept - 5 Oct. Some may applaud that :rotflmao: :rotflmao: -

My DS predicted the qn, “Are you like this boy in the picture?” similar to 2021 qn.
Yes, I noticed the resemblance too.
There was some discussion by DS’ school teacher that 2021 qn 1 was badly set: “Are u like the girl in the picture? Why or why not?”
Hilarious responses from the boys: I am not a girl, of course I am not like her![/quote]
But end up he said qn was abit different.. “Do you think the boy should be playing iPad?” -
A positive person will never get affected by negativities if one chooses not to. 😅 There is no need to escape from reality as this is Earth, a place for us. SG_KP1 do you have any useful tips to share for upcoming prelim revision ?
One man’s meat is another man’s poison. I really like this proverb. It is a good proverb and should be used in the composition if possible. Thanks for sharing the proverb. Kudos to floppy. 👍🏻 -

It depends on the child. At this point, not much will change, and healthy food/well rested are probably just as good as anything else.

The exam format/sitting for Prelims may be longer than what most kids are accustomed to. They need to learn how to manage their energy vs a one and done exam. That's probably as much of a lesson as the content tested, although again the strategy for each kid is different. -

A child who is 无所谓 will not be affected nonetheless.

Floppy has been consistently sharing quite a lot of info already and more. Give the man a Tiger! -
On preparation, my challenge is trying to balance between working on the weaker areas and yet not neglecting the stronger or OK ones.

Same here! It is like a see-saw: after P5 SA2 worked on the weaker components and neglected the stronger ones. P6 SA1 marks swung the other way. Ended up total score still the same :slapshead:

I have run out of time for prelim prep. Have chosen to just continue strengthening the easy to medium sections, and forget about the tougher ones. This is for a medium ability child.
I suppose the higher ability kids are already very polished in most aspects and can just keep the engine running by alternate between devouring prelim papers & relaxation time. -

Everyone may have their own strategy to cope with their exam but try not to group kids into different levels of ability or at least don't let them think others are having higher ability than themselves. When I was small, my parents always claimed I was a poor ability and stupid girl and I just let myself failed all exam because I was labelled as stupid.

Actually, no one claimed I am stupid except my parents.

At this stage (which is about 7 weeks to go), I believe that there's still a bit of time to build on knowledge. So, where there's a misunderstanding or a lack of knowledge, there's a window (which is closing) to still learn.
However, my approach is to do the following:
- Go into exam mode. Cover PYQs, mock exam papers etc. to get into the habit of seeing exam questions and answering accordingly, managing time for completion, anticipate weak points (which goes back to the learning point above) and be mentally prepared for whatever may come.
- Reinforce confidence, build emotional and moral support. Push, but not shove. Remind ourselves that our children are just 12 year old kids who are undergoing a monumental amount of stress and pressure at such a young age. Encourage, care and love, and remind them (as much as ourselves) that this is just an exam - one of many which they will see in their lives ahead.
- Find time to have fun and relax. It's easy to get caught up in the madness and forget to breathe. I am always reminded of that scene from Armageddon (which applies to everything we do, really) where Harry (Bruce Willis) tells Truman (Billy Bob Thornton) that he wants to give the astronauts time off before the launch - \"what if they're too burned out to do the right thing? what if they're so tense they snap? what if they forget what they're fighting for?\" (Yes, a bit dramatic but you get the picture.)

@chenlaoshi, may i ask for your opinion? If a child obviously misunderstood the question and answered wrongly during psle oral, then the cher said, '我再把问题问一遍' and repeated question. Child responded '对不起,我刚才没有听清楚\" and proceeded to answer the question. Cher gave nod to the answer. Will this incident cause a deduction of marks for the mistake?
The no. of prompting questions and how the candidate respond will affect his/her grading for the content component (15 marks) of the oral conversation (30 marks). There's a rubric that examiners will grade according to.
