Raffles Girls' School (Secondary) [*IP]

Yes, it is true that the girl is allowed to choose CL or HCL. My girl did not take HCL in P but she was encouraged to take HCL.
So far so good, she is still in HCL.
She has a strong motivation to continue with HCL because she knows that she don’t have to study anymore CL from Y5 onwards if she pass her HCL in Y4.
Actually the school is very supportive of the girls - they believe in self-driven, self-managed and responsible for their own studies. 😃
If the girl don’t do well - I’m sure the school will definitely discuss with the girl and her parent. Not only in Y1 but throughout the 4 years. -
Forgot to mention - typically the 1st subject to drop in Y1 is 3rd Lang.
The rest of the core subjects will continue to Y2. Then at Y3 - the girls will decide whether to have 8/9/10 subjects.
As far as know - most of the time the girls will get what they have chosen as long as they meet the minimum criteria of GPA2.0. -
Thanks for the details, really appreciate that!
I have heard stories of the high GPA requirements in order to continue participating in the RGS programme so I am curious whether an average performing girl can still benefit from their programme. -

Just to stay in RGS doesn't require all that much - the vast majority will make it from year to year. But there are probably some smaller programmes with more stringent requirements.

Agree with slmkhoo.
Majority of the girls have no problem progress to RJC.
If you are referring to RA programs - Opportunities will be given to all students. They will need to go through the selection test.
But you have to expect the amount of workload to increase if your girl go for 10 subjects + RA program. 😃 in Y3/Y4. -
Thank you for sharing, slmkhoo & Momo70 😀

Last point to take note:
Thank you for sharing, slmkhoo & Momo70 😀
Although the minimum passing is GPA2.0.
Usually those are weaker students and most likely they will not be able to cope with 9 or 10 subjects. Just like any normal secondary school.
Actually the school has highlighted that there is no advantage for a “10 subjects” student over a “ 8 subjects” student.
For example - a science student doing triple science in Y3/Y4 - when they reach Y5/Y6 they will only be able to do double science.
Either Chem/Phy or Chem/Bio.
Hope this helps. 😃 -

Appreciate that!

Hi! May I know for RS (research studies) in Y2, is it a compulsory to pass subject? What’s the commitment like? Is it going to take up a lot of time after school? Thanks!

Just out of curiosity, for one to make it to RGS, their PSLE grades must already be really good. Top 5% of SG? So who are the struggling weaker students in RGS? Those who entered via DSA or one could score above 259 but still do poorly in RGS?
